Re: Wilderness11 Knife with Yew
looks to be a sleek product.

Why do you use 440b ?
440C might have people biting your hand off for itRuin is the Devil's work, consecutive and slow

A beauty, but agree with Fluffy, why 440B? 440C or 12C27 would have made it a fair bit more desirable imo.

All of it just beautifully finished - blade, handle, sheath. Like the timber, too.

Re: Wilderness11 Knife with Yew
Interesting............well, to me.
It struck me, this knife is just so nice - would it be the kind of knife that is on a cusp, of sorts, that would appeal to collectors as well as users..........?
And, if the blade were more exotic, as has been suggested, that would potentially push it into the collectors camp..........while, remaining 440 - and the likely associated cost - it appeals more to the user.........?
Ok, if I'm talking bo!!ocks, I'll get m' coat.........I love not Man the less, but Nature more

Re: Wilderness11 Knife with Yew
Couldnt agree more Chui, i dont know how much the OP has priced the knife at (or even if it was for sale) but with the design, handle materials and finish etc the knife could take a decent hike in price if top spec steel was used (still, i am assuming that the knife price reflects the steel used, not always the case)
Still a real beauty but if it was made in RWL, hmmmmmm

Re: Wilderness11 Knife with Yew
I think your right mate im constantly admiring knives on here but im a 100% user and although iv kept forcing myself to try some of the more exotic steels i cant help but love the old 01 and 1095 great to use repair sharpen and maintaning them makes them even more personal and special. So i think your right some more modern steel may put off users from both price and what there use to.
Can you bring my coat aswell

Re: Wilderness11 Knife with Yew
Thanks for all your comments, much appreciated.
This knife is a prototype - I was experimenting with the filework and the layering of the stick tang.
I used 440B mostly because its a great steel and this is hardened to 59 Rockwell which I recon is bang on.
I agree that had I used a more desirable steel it would have attracted more people; I may well make another W11 with 12c27.
This knife is for sale, I,ll pop it onto the sales page, but drop me a PM if you are interested.
Cheers, Will.
