    Aldi bench grinder/belt sander

Just picked one of these up from my local branch, very impressed so far, don't think you can go wrong for the price, particularly with 3 year warranty, plenty available at the moment but think they will sell quickly....unable to post link.

There is a thread on BCUK about modding one of these, all new to me this game but i think this piece of kit will be ok as a starter grinder for a novice like me.

Was in my Aldi getting the Peters Bread Buns (I love em) and the grinders were stacked 6 foot high and 4/5 deep x 2...so lots in the NorthEast

This is the day of release for sale and will probably sell out pretty quickly i would have thought, they really are an absolute bargain, they were on sale a while ago and went like hot cakes so it is obviously a product that is available periodically when Aldi can get them in stock, apparently people who bought them last time were reselling them boxed and new on Evil-Bay for a good profit, don't know how true this is.

    Re: Aldi bench grinder/belt sander

I also got one today... A fair load of 'em left in Neston.

Thoughts on it so you know what to expect:

Had to take my first one back as the plate that supports the tracking wheel and spring etc was bent and the belt was running diagonal on the platen, meaning ti couldn't be tracked both ways without rubbing. And the bottom wheel wasn't running true (wheel not the spindle). This makes the belt wobble left and right, creating a little more heat buildup and generally being a bit of a pain.

Got another one, and it was straighter (but still a little off) and the bottom wheel was also running wobbly.

However, for £30 it's good enough so I'm not going back and risking another exchange

Not as well built as my similar clarke machine, not that that's particularly well built. Got to go out but more musings on it are available if anyone wants to know what they're getting before they get it.

And to add - They're also doing Dremel-style rotating multitool things. I think it was £17. Works well enough, and with the £3 set of doodahs for it I imagine I'll have enough doodahs to last me a while.

One of the two supplied chucks holds the doodahs off-centre so is no use. Same in the doodah kit, which also had two chuck things in it.

Works well enough though, with less parts than teh grinders there's less stuff to be badly made
