    http://mcmaster.com has it for $11.02 a foot.

Though I guess you don't really want to go that far for it.

I want to have a hicking stick that's very strong and different.
Polycarbonate (as brandname Lexan) is very impact resistant

Some make escrima sticks from this material
    I'm more interested in a staff: http://www.stickman-escrima.com/Products/SHADOWS.htm

Because I don't like the clear sticks very much I would prefer a black one.
The above mentioned website also has Shakuhachi flutes out of black polycarbonate

Unfortunately he says it was a special order for the factory and so only available for these flutes.
Black polycarbonate rods normally shouldn't be hard to get from plastic suppliers, but I just found out there are different grades of polycarbonate

Are acetal and Delrin polycarbonates? Dunno. Direct Plastics if so (prolly worth a look anyhow).

Delrin is a brand of Polyacetal which is a Polyoxymethylene (POM)

Nylon is also very tough and is a Polyamide (PA)

    Cold steel uses Polypropylene (PP)

All "plastics" (polyacetals, nylons, polycarbonate, polystyrenes (of which ABS is one) Propylenes etc etc ) have different grades/fillers & any one of them (& others) will have hugely diiffering engineering qualities.

I'd suggest looking for various grades of nylon, acetals, propylenes & carbonates (with a nod tp glass filled Bayblend, which is ABS/polycarbonate mix) for a hiking staff

Main problem with these thermoplastics is lack of stiffness in unmodified form. My guess for a "good" material would be long fiber/PA. But what is wrong with wood, ash or oak, hollowed make pretty decent staffs.
