Re: Stuart Mitchell "Survival Knife" Prototype (Pic Heavy)
Hehehe. I do like the knife. I just need more bulk at the choil area to allow me to grip it firmly there. I didn't dislike that part of the knife design, It just wasn't comfortable for me after coming from prolonged use of a much thicker handle.
As you know, I really wanted to test the knife out to its limits, but that wasn't possible, so I had to do some other stuff with it. Not what I'd really be using a survival knife for to be honest. It performed all tasks perfectly and very well, but it was fine work, so the grip became more imortant to me while I was sitting in comfort on a sunny bank one hot afternoon. No doubt it would have been less of an issue had I been using the knife in the extreme. But that lanyard hole crippled me. I should have taken pics of that. I think it needs to be half the width and bevelled/ highly polished, to stop it abrading the fleshy part of the palm.

Beautiful work Stu,
much more geared towards my younger taste. I prefer modern looking knives. Love the orange liner, looks great with that handle, but would also look great with a thinner more symmetrical handle with a normal choil.
Do tell me, if I wanted that knife how much would it cost me? Beautiful indeed.

Re: Stuart Mitchell "Survival Knife" Prototype (Pic Heavy)
Good to read your impressions Jonathan. I own a Stu Mitchell knife with a very similar handle to the prototype, so I suppose you could say I am used to a handle like that and find it very comfortable.
Handle shape is ofcourse a very personal choice. The lashing tubes did not bother me, but it couldn't hurt to slightly recess them perhaps.
I too am looking forward to seeing the MkII version of this knife.

I really like the looks of this knife. Being that my outdoor knives require a small handle for use with gloves, I think I'd get on quite well with it.
