    I couldn't agree more.

Very sensible to ask about the age thing and tax.

Back when I was self employed I went along to my local Inland Revenue office and they were really helpful. They gave me and sent me lots of info about how to keep records and books, how long I had to keep records for, how to register for self assessment, paying National Insurance etc.

I would recommend contacting them. You will have a limit below which you don't have to pay tax and as mentioned you don't pay tax for a period. This doesn't mean you should sit there doing nothing, you need to know you are keeping the records right for when you do submit a return and pay.

Theres lots of info on their website:

It will seem a bit complicated and overwhelming at first. But stick with it and you will find its easier than you think!
Thank you very much, just the advice and encouragement I needed, much more useful than a misjudgement of my character from a complete stranger. Also, is it easier if I sell for material price without profit (I'm not wanting to do it for gain) for tax?

Makes not a jot of difference, income is income, you can offset the price of materials, but if you make no profit you still ahve to record the fact you made no profit, might as well make a profit!
