What is a good survival belt that works well with horizontal carriers?

if you want a belt to last a lifetime then I think you need to look at a good quality leather belt. The fabric belts I've used and spoken to other people about as well just don't seem to have the longevity of a really good leather belt.

nope meet U.S. military specifications, I think Helikon are Polish and not that great QC

what you want is either a decent leather belt or a Rigger belt like these

this one has thin and flexible plastic stiffener sandwiched between the nylon sections to make the belt more rigid for holsters and drop leg rigs

The cobra buckles are also alot better for on and off than the roll buckles, but you do pay more for them

if you want cheaper 5.11 make various belts with or without inserts

When I was young and poor I had one like this. It survived everything I threw at it from survival bushcraft (we didn't know that's how it was called, we just called it camping) to climbing to potholing...

i do agree about the leather belt, my levi 501 leather belt is about 15 years old now and gets used pretty much every day.

These are great but that leather tab on the end gets in the way and the first thing I did was cut mine off. The buckle is a bit too chunky for me too but I like the belt material. Ideally I would like a 5.11 buckle if only it would fit.

I know people poke fun at the word 'survival' around here, and that's fair. But what I really mean when say survival, is away from civilization. Meaning, will it last a lifetime or almost a lifetime. Will it stand up to heavy use and abuse etc.

I bought a couple of 5.11 belts and never looked back.
They are fantastic to wear; stiff enough to not fold (insert lewd joke here....or dont), but not enough to be uncomfortable.
They ride great on the hips and will hold your trousers up just fine.
Further more, they'll take any abuse you might dish out.
I heartily recommend them.

I also have a pair of Blackhawk rigger belts with metal buckles (they will hold your weight). Though they are built for hard use, they are really not something you'd want to wear for EDC.
Not half as comfortable as the above mentioned belts.

I quite like my 5.11 belt too. Nothing special, plastic buckle, cheap, stiffened end tab - but just right

I've had it a few years with zero wear, but then I've had leather belts for years and they're fine too.

just received my 2 of these - nice speedy delivery from HH as usual..



for £5.95 a pop i could not be happier. the belt material is of high quality and does have some stiffness to it, although how this will stand up over time i cannot tell.

the metal work is of high quality and has some nice little touches such as a roughened surface above the clip so the belt is gripped from both sides when fastened.

not seeing the leather tabs as a problem and of course helps to stop the belt end from fraying.

not often you can spend just over a fiver for something of this quality

My spec-ops belts are about the best i have ever used, no wear after 4 or 5 years. i have the old metal buckles but the new plastic ones look good too.

I had one of the ones with a metal buckle similar to these Heinnie ones. I got fed up of it setting off the alarms at security at the airport so I got an Eagle Creek one with a plastic buckle. It is also a money belt and I have a few quid tucked away in it. The problem is the airport now ask me to take my belt off so I am no further forward. The money carrying ability has saved me on one occasion when I turned up to the shop having forgot my wallet.
