Trousers...waterproof ;)
Hello what can people recommend as a everyday/all day waterproof walking/fishing trouser? Bought some Craghoppers a couple of years ago and they never really cut it, I had to put acotton jog bottom underneath to stop them sweating!
Thanks in advance.

Re: Trousers
511 tactical have some trousers that is made from nylon/cotton mix too, quite comfy and not very warm. I tend to get warm and sweating over nothin, but these are quite alright

Re: Trousers
I tend to live in craghopper kiwi trousers , but for when its raining find Berghaus goretex performace shell with the 3/4 length zips perfect for staying dry and with great venting and they roll up very small in a pack .
a Canadian work colleque always insisted on calling them my wet pants which if you keep the goretex clean they never will be .LEATHER & KYDEX SHEATH MAKER !

Re: Trousers
Paramo do some waterproof trousers
they are quite warm, but don't get too clammy.
I only wear them when it's cold and wet.

Re: Trousers
You say that, but the water beads up on mine rather than soaking in and they get a weekly wash too, so it isn't as though the trousers are covered in grease. I haven't been out in all day weather though. My other half loves her berghaus ones, but then again she had some hideous cheap carp before that so the Berghaus probably seem like luxury. I don't know if Rab do anything in eVent material, but both of my jackets have been very impressive if pricey.

Re: Trousers
Well thank you guys, I believe I will try a pair of the Helikons from Heinne, I made the mistake of visiting TK Max today and got some great kit inc a pair of Sprayway trs for £!8ish along with a Great couple of jackets(Gelert and Iguana) at giveaway prices.
They had Craghopper trs in various types for £20ish and Mountain equipment base layers tops £17.
Ended up with £100s worth!!Oh well Im sure someone on here will get a bargain off me when I sell all my unworn gear !

Re: Trousers
The 5.11 Taclite pros are a great trouser - I too find that water just runs straight off them, and they're around a year old now. They do get a bit sweaty in warm weather during exercise, but that's to be expected with their high polyester content and the water-resistant coating. Pockets a-plenty, very well made, and certainly what I'd call 'high value'.
Not 'waterproof' though, as Nice noted above. If at first you don't succeed: reload

Re: Trousers
do you really need waterproof trousers. no matter what material or make, they'll either be hot, sweaty, or not that waterproof
you're much better off with good quality normal trousers. 5.11s are a good shout, i've been pleased with mine
for walking trousers try montane terras

Re: Trousers
You could get some good light close-weave ripstop polycotton ones and paint/spray/wash with some of that Nikwax cottonproof stuff, or any other silicone based waterproofer - in fact you could try Johnson's Waterseal - seems to work on everything.
Or wax them
Also there's ventile trousers out thereLast edited by Noddy; 03-08-12 at 02:43 AM.

Re: Trousers
I wonder why, I have used their SFU trousers now for 2 y almost daily and no problems of any kind, very comfy and if so oriented a jodan mawa goes. I have used one winter their heavy fleece jacket and I am very happy with that too.The word Helikon always seems to be mentioned in the same sentence as the words poor and quality. No personal experience of them in the flesh, but you might want to research further. I must admit that I had considered them myself until I saw all of the negative mentions.
