i used to deal with these chaps and the equipment was like new, but of course you get a much higher spec for your money on refurb equipment

mate have 3 dell inspiron units out at the moment 2 to grandkids plus me seems to be ok with all the abuse they get not the best spec in the world but at under £300 quid each very good value in my opinion asda or tesco were best bets

    It's too broad a question .

You can go down the bargain-hunting, quality-chasing route, or you can just go to Tesco or ASDA's website, check the prices aren't way out of line, and buy what you fancy after going to the store for that hands-on experience. Return it for a refund if it breaks . On the other hand, if he's going to be needing telephone support, I've heard both excellent and terrible things about Dell's support. Check Dell's outlet website as well.

I'd say don't go for a used or refurbished deal because it's a gamble, and support or refunds could be problematic.

We had a Toshiba for years, it started getting slow and old so we went to a toshiba outlet, got a cracking one there (factory refurb shop return type thing) brilliant, like new and £350 (they had cheaper and dearer models also)
don't know if you have one near you for a look.

Thanks guys, that's really helpful and my brother is going to try and drag him off to see stuff for real before he does an impulse buy online.
At least I know where I get that trait from
