Fish tail
Good evening,
I said that i have difficulties to make a handle without some kind of guard.
I never saw anyboby wounded by a knife for the reason that it was guardless.I know and see every day people using and abusing opinels or similar knives (firstly myself) and injuries are not due to the lack of guard at 99%.
I made 2 weeks ago a handle without guard ,i d'nt put pictures of it in the forum because i wonder if i keep this shape for the rear of the handle.
Polar blade 95mm,brass ferule and 120mm oiled woodnut handle.
This time i made the sheat going more high on the handle as i used to do.
Thanks for looking.

Fish tail handles, my favorite! Have you made the fuller or did it arrive with the polar blade? If so, can you make a manual or something? Much obliged sir!

Re: Fish tail
Good evening,
Thanks for your replies.
My english is far from good so i ,try to reply to Old School:
I made a first handle more classic, but with 13.3 cm in length,i found (true or not) that it was too big ,specilly too long ,compared to the blade.

So i made another handle,12 cm in length, and when shaping it,i decided for the fish tail shape.
Yes,may be the rear of the handle is too bulky particularly compared with the thin Polar blade.
Feels quite comfortable in the hand.

May be i sand a little the rear of the handle.
I hope i said what Old Shool was asking for.
Thanks again.
Greetings

Re: Fish tail
Pardon me sir, I've written my question wrong, instead of writing ferrule, I have written fuller. I am interested in that ferrule- have you made it or was it bought.
I have found a manual on how to make it. Thanks, and I hope you will treat that knife as it deserves

This is tough-looking workman. I like knives which can do the work they planned for!
And I adore that walnut.
Interesting ferule on the last knife - is it consist of two parts?

Re: Fish tail
Good evening,
I live far from everything and knifemaking supplies are scarce not to say non-existent.
So i have to manage with what i can find.
This ferule is made from a plumber's screw intended to close pipes.

Of course,i had to grind the outside (partly on my wood lathe, partly on the belt grinder)and make the hole for the blade.
I ended with a ferule about 2mm in thickness.
Greetings.

Re: Fish tail
Great idea, Palmier! I have already find such kind of detail, but made out of steel - not interesting. So now just start to look fierce onto one innocent brass tube
