Sleeping Bag Recomendation
I went camping at the weekend (not one of my favourite pastimes) & alas the zip on my ageing Eurotrek bag gave up the ghost - the camping experience wasn't enhance by the fact that my friends tent is more akin to a collander, but I digress...
Whilst I don't camp often, I'd like to have a bag just in case the need arises. I'm not doing any arduous expeditions, so a 2-3 season bag will suffice, ideally I'd prefer down rather than a synthetic fill.
Crucially (this is where the problem seems to arise) I am very broad across the shoulders/chest & find that most "mummy" bags are restrictive to the point where I almost panic when they're zipped up.I don't really want a "square" bag as it's just more bulk & weight to cart about. I measured my old bag (not the wife) & it's 90cm wide when laid flat/zipped at the opening. Ideally I'd want a replacement which is at least, as if not a little wider. Surely I can't be the only person with this issue?
I did find a cracking bag from phdesigns, where they do various widths/lengths, but as I'm not going to use it very often, I baulked at the £265-300 price tag. I'm happy to spend around the £100 mark to get something reasonable.

If anyone can make any recomendations, it would be much appreciated.Hacker: "This could be my Falkland Islands"

Re: Sleeping Bag Recomendation
There's other ways around it, if you can't find the right bag.
Like take a quilt or a good blanket - or even two - one for under
I've used blankets a few times - rather nicer than the bag in the end, breathable warm .. all that
You could fold a double-size cotton sheet in half (tack it together too) to help keep out delinquent breezes, bugs and that for summer

Re: Sleeping Bag Recomendation
I love my Nanok Endurance 0. Bags of room for me (6'2" and broad shouldered) and it can be expanded by slipping the -10 inside if you do decide to go colder. It packs down small with the compression sack that comes with it, has two zips and is toasty warm for me

Edit - It's well long as well, far longer than I really need usually!!

Re: Sleeping Bag Recomendation
Just bought one of these, £74 delivered inc. BB discount, a great bag but synthetic filled, same problem as you, 50" chest, can roll around in this with expander system (2nd zip) in use, must have got mine just in time as they are now out of stock at Heinnie's but available all over the web with a search, hope this helps:-

I'm pretty broad and have used a Rab bag, an Ascent 700 to be exact, they don't list it on their site now, but the other Rab bags might worth a look.

Some manufacturers (PHD IIRC) offer zip-in wedges for big guys.
I've learned from my mistakes, I'm now really good at them.

I'm 6' tall and "chunky" !!!
but i've found the nanok endurance bags and the snugpak military range are ideal. Both with center zips. I now use the snugpak military pair and both bags are roomy enough and pack a lot smaller than the nanok bags
Also I've a large version of this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/THERMAREST...item3a78135616
Has a bit of a "foot" to to fit over your kip mat and fairly toastie!! not restrictive at all!! If you want to stop it wandering about it has a couple of d-rings to pass a bit of bungee through. Think the large version is about £145 and small pack size

i'd say your going to struggle to get a decent down bag for round 100 quid i'd go for a snugpak 6 or 9 and get a extender panal for bit more room, most down bags are small for better heat to weight. rab to some cheaper ones than are bigger but well over a 100quid.

Aye drink responsibly - more than half a bottle of rum and few tins - make sure and have a parent (or at least a slightly predatory uncle) at hand

Rab Ascent 500 down bag for £100. The colour would probably make me ill though. The only reason I mention it, other than the stunning price, is the fact that it says that it is wide.
