Father and son holiday knives
Hi all,
Just thought I would share these two...father and son first attempts.
Okay, I know they are not pretty...they don't compete with with the makers out there...perhaps will not satisfy the purists and perfectionists...
...but they were never planned to leave home and my goodness they work as knives (ouch
). They make fantastic whittlers and sit in the hand very nicely.
A few details.
Small blade is a Dave Budd and the larger a James Wood. Handles are antler tines and the blades are set in with Acraglass (very strong but you do smell like a chip shop afterwards as the best way of cleaning your hands is with vinegar
).
Sheathes are being made at the moment - probably just some slipover jobs as these are not going to be carried on a belt.
Despite the amateur quality that may be pointed out (and please do, this is a learning process
) it is the intrinsic value of these knives as I have spent the past two days with my son sat at a table working together - it has been brilliant and we still have the sheathes to go
.
Pic below - advice welcome.
