    2nd knife

Proof positive that this is an addictive hobby - here's my second knife:

Hope you can see that picture. Apologies in advance for the quality of the photo.

Lauri progressive tempered blade, nickel silver spacers and bolster, birch handle with a bit of buffalo horn as well. Sanded to 320 then polished with steel wool for a very long time. Finished with tung oil 'cos I like the colour.

    Thanks for looking!

    Re: 2nd knife

Very nice looking. Birch can give great results. I also like the way you used vulcanfiber.
Why did you stop at 320?
I know it feels smooth, but moisten it a bit and let it dry, now feel....very rough no? This raises the fibres that you flatten when sanding.
That's why most us go up to 1200 or even higher. With moistening in between.

    Re: 2nd knife

Yes the two thin black bands are vulcan fibre.

To be honest I didn't think to go any higher. Can I still try wetting it and sanding even though it's had a coat of tung oil?

    Thanks for your advice.

What do you need 2 knives for?
If you will a good edge win,
temper thick and then grind thin.

    lol

No seriously my first went to my dad for Christmas. This one will replace my current (used and abused) marttiini knife. I don't collect.

That's nice. The birch looks good and it looks like you got a god fit ebtwee the balde and the bolster.
