Re: TSA to allow pocket knives

I remember once on an internal flight when we came back home with father from a hunting trip, we had our guns in the cabin. The only question asked was: any luck?

Re: TSA to allow pocket knives

I remember a flight .. well several .. to Toronto with our eldest (who is only 10 now). Listening to Schubert on the Walkman, swigging brandy from a hipflask, opening sandwiches with an Opi. All that.

Maybe we can again now. Pistole doesn't sound like he is budging an inch, and God knows what the media are actually sqwawking about over the issue. Probly the airlines are going to lose a taxbreak or some other favour for introducing the securiy measures in the first place, and the lobbyists and interest groups have been out plying their sweets and poisons.

Blade HQ are listing knives that meet with "TSA Guidelines". A bit like HH does with UK legal knives.

Should prove to be a useful resource.

I wonder if a Bikers Toothpick Pocket Knife counts or is it a molded handle?

No it is a slip joint and the blade length is 2-1/4. It also has a version in wood. It isn't the highest quality but at it's very low price point it might be a good choice since you can chuck it if they say no.

Disposable is always good in case they get funny.

I do find the Leatherman Style CS looks to be a useful set of tools.

That's a nice looking knife however at $3.95 I would imagine its not S30V with a titanium handle

I would imagine the postage to the UK would be about 30 these days. Shame.

Seems TSA are mid u-turn, and delaying the change.

That's just to annoy the knife industry who are scrabbling to make TSA compliant knives and all the public who have gone out to buy stuff that will comply.

You watch, they will scrap the new changes.

Re: TSA to allow pocket knives

Over here in the US just now and they have just announced they have banned them again, no knives at all (except for plastic or round bladed butter knives!)

Lucky I wasn't travelling with hand luggage only!!

TSA guy was on TV and he wanted to keep them allowed but apparently it was the pilot and air host(ess) unions that wanted them to be banned. TSA guy was quite good said that the TSA screeners get rewarded for finding prohibited items and sometimes they overlay a piccy of a 'device' onto the xray at times during the day to test the screener. If they hit the alert button they get a big "congratulations this is a drill" flashed on the screen. He also talked about they wanted to focus on hidden devices in printer carts, CD players, laptops etc rather than knives. In tests when the knives were in the baggage the screeners spotted the knife but not the device. seems reasonable..

    Cheers

    Alan
