First dagger blade
I had wanted to make dagger or double edged blades for a long time but was put off because all the stuff I read about it said it was really difficult. As I plan to make some collectable folding daggers like Danzo likes, I though I better practice. So I took some EN42 4mm thick, cut it to size on the bandsaw and use the angle grinder to rough grind the bevels. Then the belt sander to do the bevels. It didn't take long, it is a bit rough but I'm quite pleased with the result. its 20mm wide and the blade is 100mm long

Re: First dagger blade
That looks very good. Can't wait to see the finished blade.
What shape/style are you going to do for a handle?

Ive been thinking about it myself but have also been put off by other peoples comments.

That's looking good Shing. Hopefully now that Sammis chicken pox is passed I'll be able to get over to see you to have a chat.

Re: First dagger blade
Hi Danzo, the dreaded chicken pox, I remember the twins having them last year.
It was not as difficult as I tought but needed concentration and a light touch. Takes a bit longer to do than a single edged blade. I chose a blade profile that made it easier.

Re: First dagger blade
Tabitha has the chicken pox now and as she is so small she looks a bit like one large pustule!

Blade does look very nice though, and it will be fun to talk through some handle designs as well.

Re: First dagger blade
Very good. It's really hard to make a perfect center ligne for the double edge, good work.

Re: First dagger blade
Hi Shing,
What's the other side like - is it the same (ground to two edges) or have you left it flat in a chisel grind?

Re: First dagger blade
I have ground both sides, I think it makes a better blade although I have a folder design that uses a chisel ground blade because it has to fit into a handle just a fraction wider than the blade and sharp on both sides.
The blade in the photos do have some imperfections as you would expect but I hope later blades will be a lot better.
