I modified my first knife today....

... it's was a slip joint cheapy, but I cut the blade into a drop point and sanded the whole thing to make it look very carried .

    +1!!!
It's absolutely impudent to post such a teaser without any photos!!!

I do a fair amount of "mods" myself (some quick fixes others more elaborate) and the only thing I'm missing here on BB really, is a little corner reserved for those! I don't wanna be ludicrous and post those under custom made!!??

My Age?? Well, does "Please be quiet, I'm trying to record that song!" mean anything to you???

I know some people exactly my age .... but all grown up! One has to be really careful in life!

This thread is a bit like a date with Charlize Theron, and no 'afters'

Ha ha yeah, but the knife is a clone, and that's a no no. On reflection, I should probably have kept my mouth shut, sorry

Excellent. I almost forgot, I also modified the tail of the blade for a more positive hold on the back spring

Have a look on www.exduct.com. Plenty of 'similar' looking knives, but unbranded so not blatant copies. The Chinese manufacturers get orders from the big knife makers. When the run is complete, they change the design a bit. They're very cheap, and are great for modifying. I'm not sure the American knife producers are too keen on this, but if they're wanting a knife that they can sell for big dollars that costs them not much, then it's their copywrite problem.

I may do that, thanks. Most of my clones have come from dhgate.

Fair enough, you seem to be aware of the BB view on branded fakes. You'll find a few sites have been run through the swear filter and will only appear as asterisks, so thanks for not posting pics of branded fakes or direct linking

There sure is a difference beteeen "clones" and "fakes", imho at least!

Especially the "bush craft" scene is flooded with clones and nobody seems to be too worried!?

In my books, as long as a clone is not branded as the real mccoy (which'd make it a fake) and the dealer doesn't imply it is the real mccoy (which'd make it fraud), it's legitimate to buy and show.
Anybody who thinks they're buying a real Shirogorov e.g. For 20 quid should collect stamps anyway!

And as Mr. Nice put it, if the companies are willing to outsource production for the quick buck, well, it's their problem.

    Cheers

Well, one side is branded, I could take pics of the other side if it's allowed?

Otherwise, I'll just have to get modifying some good stuff lol

    Best not.

We all know they're out there and easy to find. BB is strongly against publicising them further.
