    Advice finishing Figured Irish Ash

    Hi all
Can someone please advise me how to finish a set Figured Irish Ash scales, I don't want them super glossy, just kind of natural and satin I guess.
Do I have to seal them, or just put some kind of oil on, sorry if I a bit dim

I use Danish Oil on just about everything I use in wood.

If it is a one time fit-and-go job I lash it on thick and come back shortly afterwards when it is well soaked in and wipe off the excess. But if I have time, I would put on a good first coat then, the next day, sand it with the grain using either fine sandpaper or, better again, superfine steel wood. Brush the sanding off and wipe everything down with white spirits and then over the course of a couple or three days apply two very light finishing coats. I more or less just show it the oil and lightly wipe it over immediately with the cloth and it'll still leave a layer of oil on there. You can add more layers to increase glossiness as required but I find three coats leaves a nice satin finish.

    Looking good....

That is the exact same finish as I try to get on my handles, a satin sheen without appearing to be sealed or glossy.
