    Need a quote guys.

Ok I have been contacted with regard to a custom knife.

The person concerned has sent me a sketch and given details of steel type etc. The person who I would usually use is tied up with another project at the moment and I'd like some of you budding bladies to give me a quote on this blade. All dimensions must be followed as must details of grind etc.

The drawing has been copyrighted by the owner ( not me!!)

any one up for it, end me a pm or mail and give me a quote. The blade will need to be acid etched with a logo and there may be more than one knife of the same design to be made.

    Takers.???

I can't help you with the blade Dave, but I'd like one of the finished knives!

I'm starting to get very peeved that I can't use my grinder yet...

Some of the text on that gif hasn't scaled too well, I'm afraid.

    Questions:

How is that pommel attached? Peened or threaded?
What surface finish on the blade? Mirror polish? Satin? Bead blast?
(as an aside, I'd probably have specced the grind height rather than the angle, but the maths is simple enough)
1 off, or a run? Logo is what?
Forged, stock removal or does it not matter?
    Hardness - approximate/estimated, or tested?

    Right. here goes.

The pommel is peened, although I have my reservations.

it needs to be stock removed in o1 tool steel

Finish was not mentioned so I would say satin.

Hardness 55-59 rockwell... nothing mentioned about tested etc sorry!

The logo has been drawn and will be sent when someone has offered to make the blade. it is a condition of the quote. I am not allowed to show it to everyone. It is a drawing tho.

    Hope that helps Peter.

Kinell give me a chance I'm still working on 2 tissue grabbers for you!:lmao:

Sounds cool. One thing that sproings to mind - if the tang is peened, then it'll need to be soft. Differential hardening? Sorry - I know, I know - blooming engineers

(Just seen the "may be more than one" - oops.)

oh it's a logo ..... i thought it was a hole and i was going to say watch out, you'd have Sal on your back

you could always soften the tip of the tang to peen it after the hardening process. Or even do it hot while keeping the blade cool.
nice design, I like the gentle graduation on the transition.

    Nice design......I like sloping spines.

The tang could be softened to peen,...I have done that, but I had to hold the blade in a vise to peen it,and had to be careful not to mark the blade..not something you want at this late stage!!!

Having a threaded tang/pommel allows multiple test fits before final epoxy........helpful to the maker

Looks more like a stock removal manufacture as the spine is all one thickness...... forging tends to put a taper in as the point is drawn out.

I like it ....Will be interesting to see the finished project.

Its profile sort of reminded me of a smaller version of the WS survival/dartmoor knife.

    ...formerley known as "coutel".

I agree with the threaded option. it will make it easier for blade change if need be.

The guy mentioned that the knife will be will pounded upon pommel to spilt wood on occasions. I ask the bushy boys is this sort of batoning needed... wouldn't an axe be used for this?
