    Re: The Legal Slipjoint Sticky

I got a new toy in the mail today... The Pat Crawford Key Chain Cutter, it's a friction folder with a 3.5" blade, but the cutting edge is only 2.5" so it's legal for EDC

Dont be too sure on that one mate. If you check what Danzo has said in the past, the law states cutting edge, but it has been interpreted as length in front of the pivot by LEOs in the past

EDIT: post altered as I was talking rubbish, sorry David

I'll need to read up on what Danzo's said in the past, but I'm pretty confident about the blade length not being an issue (well as confident as you can be about something like that in the UK) since the first inch of the "blade" is really just a finger grove to secure the blade in the open position while in use.

I'll be posting a short review on it shortly

    Re: The Legal Slipjoint Sticky

The law does specify that it is the cutting edge, but several of the serving and ex police officers on the forum have suggested that the typical officer on the street will measure the entire blade.

Clearly if the case got to court the actual wording of the law would be applied, but that wording may not prevent you from being arrested in the first place.

I'd agree that the first inch does come across as distinctly a part of the one handed opening facility, rather than any sort of cutting edge, but I wouldn't want to rely on that if stopped and searched. Taken from point to pivot a 3.5" blade (even partially unsharpened) is quite a big blade and I would have thought it might raise eyebrows amongst the boys and girls in blue.

Best thing might be to see if there is any consensus of opinion from Ross, Bagman, Mirage, Coutel, Cromdubh and any other members who were or are UK cops that I may have forgotten.

    Welcome to BB!

I'd recommend that you repost this in the Commons. More people will read it there.

For a UK-legal EDC, many will recommend either the Spyderco UK Penknife (UKPK) or the Spyderco Pride.

Both were purpose-designed to comply with our laws.

Other excellent choices include a Swiss Army Knife (SAK) of one type or another.

In a case decided by a jury, the jury decides how much compensation you should get, although the judge will give them guidance on how much it should be. In other cases, the judge decides.

It is not easy to predict how much compensation you will win. Each case is different and the judge's or jury's decision will depend on the evidence they have heard. However, the Court of Appeal has given some idea of how much compensation you should get in false imprisonment and malicious prosecution claims.

For false imprisonment, you should expect to get at least £600. If you are falsely imprisoned for 24 hours, the amount should be £3,500."

    Re: The Legal Slipjoint Sticky

On Monday I saw a nice looking Marbles trapper on Heinnie and thought "ooh yes, stag handle and only £17.95".

it arrived yesterday , I opened the box, hhhmm, nice a zip case with it, open the case YE GODS!

You could beat Elephants to death with it, it was a Marbles jumbo trapper it's 4 1/2 inches long closed, and weighs quite a bit.

I was going to keep it because it has lovely shaped blades, but after talking to Nick at Heinnies I'm sending it back and getting 2 Rough Rider trappers with bone handles instead
