Combination concealex/leather sheaths
Joe has kindly sent me a 5-pack of Concealex sheath kits. Each sheet measures a foot square, so I'll end up with some spare sheet material. That got me thinking, can I combine Concealex and leather for a better sheath?
Leather is more comfortable against the skin and Concealex is best for a throat clip to hold the knife in. So I'm thinking of maybe building a Concealex clip into a leather sheath.
Has anyone seen this done before? Any pointers?

Re: Combination concealex/leather sheaths
Hi ZDP
Sounds interestig!! I have thought about that my self! but I dont think that it will be very comfy! the sheath are gonna be a "fat" one!! first the concelex and then the leather!.
The other thing..leather is good for knives there is "taken" care of. the owner got the time to look after his sheath and his knife. The tyical "plastic" owner want a concelex/kydex sheath because there is no maintenace! I make alot of kydex myself and in 90 % of my use I prefere to have a sheath there just work and work, without putting alot of work in it ! But I think there is alot more soul in a pure leather sheath. II like the feeling of a really nice handmade leather sheath ans I have some from Dwayne Puckett aka Leatherman. And they are so NIIIIIiice to look on and carry, but I will not use them in the "field"(I'm a soldier) because they gonna take me tim to keep them in good conditions!
So my oppinion is to keep the to materials apart, they are excelent materials both, but I wouldt no combine them

Re: Combination concealex/leather sheaths
I'm not a fan of kydex although its good stuff. I love leather but of course it needs care or at least a good pre-use treatment of Nurwax.
I prefer ballistic nylon for working kit as its flexible but doesnt retain water. of course you can only really work it with a sewing machine which puts it out of the amatures reach (my Mrs would throw a thrombie if I used her singer ) Of course with modern load bearing kit Kydex allows any number of options for easy fitting where leather is a little bit harder. thinking about the leather/kydex combo I think if you used the kydex as the spine and made a leather front you would have the best of both worlds. soft and silent on the front gripping and stiff on the back. you could pre-drill the kydex and then hand stitch a front on it or even to be really flash latigo lace it on. traditional looks with modern support. I think I might give that a go for the summer kith.
