Re: Blade Grinding (My way) lot’s of Pic’s

Another option rather than having to adjust your table is to put a bolt threaded through the angle iron down toward the table. As you turn the bolt in and out it changes the angle of the angle iron in relation to the table and platen. Works very well. I didn't come up with the idea by the way but found it on a knife grinding video and copied it. Akraven

    [QUOTE=Xunil;525929]Interesting way of doing it.
I freehand grind all my blades.
The moment you put a jig in front of me I go all to pieces.

My apologies for taking so long to get the pic's posted. My FTP server that I upload with has been having problems (either that or I am having problems!) I will get them posted as soon as I can. akraven

Re: Blade Grinding (My way) lot’s of Pic’s

Well finally conquered all the problems and here are the pic's.

You clamp the blade onto the jig and by cranking the allen head bolt up and down set the angle you want. Then just grind first one side and then the other going through each grit. By picking one of the horizontal lines to align to and making a mark on the back of the blade to align to the set pins at the bottom you can keep your angles and create good grinds!
Hope that helps. If you have any questions just holler. Akraven

Re: Blade Grinding (My way) lot’s of Pic’s

akraven, does having a single bolt, in the middle, give it a tendency to rock at all?
Thanks for getting the pics up, too!!! I didn't swing by here yesterday.
You may have just saved me a considerable amount of work. "Though I already have the pieces/parts to do it Aly's way. Then again, maybe I could try both ways.

George, please don't "Shout"(all Caps). Or was "Caps Lock" on?

Are you referring to the Marker line on the blade lined up w/those black dots on the jig?

Or are those more than just "Dots"?

The more I look at it, the more I think I'm missing something here.

Re: Blade Grinding (My way) lot’s of Pic’s

I will work on some more pic's today. The single bolt doesn't seem to create a major issue with rocking. When you see a pic of how I hold it it should be a little clearer. akraven

Re: Blade Grinding (My way) lot’s of Pic’s

Here are a couple more pic's that may clear this up.

As you can see you can stabilze the jig quite easily with your hands. The platen on my grinder is set @ 90 degrees and all adjustments are done with the bolt. Hope this helps. By the way my apoligies to the original poster for stealing this thread. akraven
