Could we get a break down of the actual Jig construction? Pics will do.

Re: Blade Grinding (My way) lot’s of Pic’s

    Aly,
Thankyou for such a great posting.
Have nearly completed my first knife....
But: I have ground a damascus blank, and am in need of the forums help.
I have found some real black ash for the handle scales, that complements the damascus in the lines of pattern.
I was considering etching with Nitric or sulphuric acids, then browning (as in gun barrel) to complement the browns in the black ash......then polishing the blade to leave browns and highly polished steel......has anyone tired this?

    Thanks to any answers,
    Tony

Hi Aly, I hope you don't mind me taking your jig idea and running with it to fit me needs.

I couldn't easily expand my work platform so I expanded the jig to keep it on the platform the entire length of the blade. Since I don't have an aluminum gun for my welder I improvised the spacer by tapping the middle bottom screws on the jig. This way I can grind different thicknesses easliy.

Great pics. I'm going to try it out. Do you do any hollow grinding? If so do you have a jig for this as well or know of one I can check out

A superb thread, thanks Aly for starting it.

I made my version of a jig this morning, not got round to extending the table on the Rexon so I'll try it out on a little wharncliffe.

I rethought the position of the adjusting screw so now it bears on the baseplate.

    Ingredients:

Just what I had lying around plus a hinge from B&Q

    Welded (horribly ) :

Horrible welds ground back and fully assembled:

I sew custom nylon stuff, have a look at this thread Or at the Facebook page.

I looked at this and used your way of doing this last spring. I made a 30" adjustable table using a H frame design. The guide works very well. The blade work looks great (my hands are not what they used to be). I have done leather work for many years and now working with blades.
    Thanks
    Wayne
