I think your friend has somewhat of a good imagination when it comes to estimating his yardage, either that or his plastic measuring tape was left out in the sun too long. I see that this is your first post here at BB. Don’t let less than friendly comments put you off posting again, but maybe try and make sure that you don’t make a mistake in what you are saying (ANY sort of mistake), as it is ammunition (excuse the pun) for the regulars who may like to take an easy pot shot (again) at the new guy. As for it being cruel to shoot rabbits at 200 metres with an air rifle, well if I was a rabbit, I would sooner have someone shooting at me at that distance than say twenty five metres…. If by some miracle the pellet did hit me, it probably wouldn’t even get through the fur! Regarding the economics, I agree that over the long haul, it is cheaper to feed than a cartridge gun of any type, especially if you are talking full bore ammo, which can cost around the price you mentioned.
My only gripe with your post is that like many folk these days, you are using abbreviated text (u instead of you) and also haven’t bothered to check your spelling. Grammatically it is a bit of a mess, but hey what the heck, I can understand it! Sorry if I seem nit-picky, but that’s just my gripe… and I’m trying to “fit in” by kicking the new kid

To be fair if Danzo, Ropey or me would have made a statement that daft Trixx would have called us on it just the same, and probably used worse langauge

Yes I agree it was a daft statement, and maybe the B comment would have been suitable between mates in a bar, but said to a new guy who maybe just made a bit of a “faux pas”. Surely it is counterproductive to tell a new poster “Bo…cks” just because you know they are wrong in what they have stated? As for the language, well it isn’t conducive to what could be a constructive and friendly conversation. I know that bad language is not seen as much of a problem these days, as it pales into insignificance with all the other “stuff” around us, but come on guys, set the standards a little higher if you can. It is hard to stop swearing in verbal conversation, as it just slips out, but when you have to actually type it, there is no real excuse.

Okay not set in stone I grant you, but I would say that we are asked to use language that would be fit for the family… and that wouldn’t be fit for mine!

Quite possible.... it could get caught up in a strong gust of wind... heck it could go all the way out to 1000mts or more!!!

Let he who is without rocks cast the first kettle.

If I may summarise your own first post on the subject:

"-Your mate's a liar, that's completely wrong, even if you hit a rabbit at 200m the chances of a clean kill are minimal.

-Your spelling, abbreviations and grammar are terrible. "

Good job, though, in managing to be condescending to a new poster and provocative to everyone else at the same time.

Mr_Yarrow has it exactly right - doesn't matter if you've got one post or a million, if you spout nonsense you are likely to be called on it by someone who actually knows what they are talking about. Facts are chiels that winna ding, and one of the strengths of BB is the high proportion of useful, intelligent contributions amongst all the normal internet white noise and gibberish.

    Re: FAC Air rifles?

I don't think you'd find any responsible shooter in disagreement with anything said by any of the regulars in this thread. 200 metres is a ridiculous distance to be shooting at anything with an air rifle, let alone at an animal, I'd say the robustness of the language used is justified by the degree of recklessness that may be encouraged by such silly claims of distance and efficacy.

As to kicking the new guy, there are 32 'new guys' who have joined in the last ten days and posted something, this is the only one who has been 'kicked' and I would suggest that it is the specious nonsense in his post that has been kicked and quite rightly.

As has been said, the newness of the poster does not warrant the response, the crassness of the information does, no matter the longevity of the membership.

When it comes to achieving a clean kill on a prey animal, grammar is of very much a secondary importance.

Now, how about we leave this thread to remain the informative and useful resource it was on FAC air rifles rather than a whingefest?

I may decide to use my discretion to keep the topic on track and delete any further silliness.

We have many experienced and responsible shooters and outdoors men on the forum, post 49 offends them considerably more than the slight profanity used to underscore the frustration felt at baynham3's post.

We have a responsibility to make sure that when people post drivel on the forum that they are called on it so that other less experienced readers don't believe such nonsense.
