A Pair Of Swords

I've just been given this pair of swords by my father, who found them in an attic years ago, can anyone tell me anything about them.
What would be the best method of cleaning.

i don't know anything about swords, but my first guess would be a bit of metal polish like flitz, or brasso

Can't help on the sword identification but I'd definately wait on a positive ID before cleaning them. Collectors can be very fussy about cleaning genuine antiques and values can be substantially reduced by cleaning sometimes. That is of course if you intend or hope to sell them

Yep, I agree with Danzo, no idea about these rather interesting looking swords but if they do turn out to be somthing special an inexpert cleaning could certainly harm their appeal and value.

Have a look at www.oldswords.com (you have to register) search item# 88488 or engineers, British in the search engine. There are a few that look similar

Thanks for that Fullplate, I managed to find out they are British cira 1800 to 1850.

No, I'm stuggling to find them on any other web site than the one already suggested. Any idea's?

You could post the pictures at www.swordforum.com there is a subforum specifically devoted to antique European swords(you have to register there too, but it is free)There are plenty of experts there who are only too happy to help out.

I've been told by members of the sword forum that they are Pioneer, Royal Artillery sawback swords cira 1820, just trying to find a value for them now.
