Could you give me a list of legal one-hand opening knives?
I want to buy myself a legal knife that I can carry with me all the time in the UK instead of Delica. I want something with one-hand opening and preferably with a clip that I can move from one side to another. What would you recommend?
I know there is CRKT Edgie, Spyderco UKPK and T mag, but I don't like how Edgie looks like and Spydercos seem to be overpriced. Anything else?
Are large one-hand opening SAKs legal in the UK to carry in cities?
Thanks,Last edited by Omega; 10-06-07 at 03:56 PM.

My current carry is a spyderco pride, ended up getting it from ebay USA. Cost just over £20 delivered for the US flag version, bit of hot water and the flag falls out. The belt clip is removable, but you cant put ito n the other side. Many swiss army knives are legal carry a well, at work I have a cyber tool on my belt.

The Spyderco UKPK really is the best option, IMO. The edgie gets terrible reviews from most people, so I'd give that a miss. There is also the spyderco pride, its clip is set for right hand tip down only but it is cheaper then the UKPK.
There's a similar thread here you might be interested in.
Edit: With regards to the larger SAKs, they're not legal to carry without a good reason, as the blades are over 3 inches and they lock.

The only ones I can think of are:
Spyderco UKPK
Spyderco Pride
One-armed-man SAK (this is a SAK with a notch cut into the end of the blade, you push this notch onto your belt and twist the knife to open the blade)

it depends on your budget, i'm sure a maker on here will make you one, or you could mod an opinel or find a locker you like and remove the lock.
apart from that i'd say that from what i've heard a ukpk is the best option

Re: Could you give me a list of legal one-hand opening knives?
Generally I would not say that Spydercos are overpriced - in fact they are usually extremely good value. The T-Mag is, IMHO, an exception to this as it is very expensive and seems to offer novelty rather than function as it is not as secure as a normal slipjoint and the magnet is a bit dicey if it gets too near your credit cards/data keys.
I would recommend a UKPK without hesitation but I'm awaiting the Urban with baited breath. IIRC it will have a FRN scaled option that may have a lower price.
In contrast I would say that the Edgie is overpriced for what you get. At £20 it was the least functional piece of metal I have ever had the misfortune of owning.
If you want to try something a little more awkward to use, but still one handed you could try a One-armed Jack knife. Hen and Rooster and WR Case both make them, or if you wanted to test them out to see if you like them you could get some that Rough Rider make (about £6 each)
If you are a little more practically inclined you could try SCBarker's mod to a suitable AXIS locking Benchmade to make it non lockingRemaining positive will set you apart

My favourite EDCs are the Spyderco UKPK, Victoriox Soldier, Victorinox Farmer and my new Victorinox Alox Lumberjack.

WH legacy but it's more pricey then a UKPK
no clip but you can get a clip case allowing for right or left hand carry, you'd need to remove the lanyard for tip down carryWARNING contents of this post may not be consistant with reality

don't forget about semi-ish customs and other friction folders like the WH legacy. they can all be used one handed

Re: Could you give me a list of legal one-hand opening knives?
I bought a CRKT Edgie from Heinnie just because I was curious to see if a self sharpening knife could be any good.
I'ts turned out to be a very nice little lawful edc for what I was expecting to be a cheap and nasty gimmic, and is getting a surprising amount of carry time.Last edited by zardoz; 11-06-07 at 10:34 PM. Reason: edit - CRKT (I put CRK, ooops)

I wanted something for about £30. I bought Delica for about this sum from internet.
