Re: thicko seeking guidance
Hi Bushwacker, this might help for the basic ideas.
Brisa is a Scandinavian knife supplies company, check out their tutorials.

I'm sure the guys who really know what they are doing will be along to advise you pretty soon.

Tell us about the blade you are renovating.
Is there a story behind it ?

Hi Bushwhacker
Try sending your query to the Scandi makers by PM (just put a comma between their names)
Trond, Dave Barker, Sajuma, JohanB, Otto, JKD...........those I forget I apologise to.
They are normally always pleased to share their knowledge and skills.

If you dont have the tools for sawing you can saw out with a bore and alternatively heat the tang and push the handle on.
After this you can file/grind/sand it to shape. This is the way i do it. I am glad to help you with everything i know, just ask. But hey, what do i know

Re: thicko seeking guidance
Thanks guys! I checked out the tutorials and spent the day cutting and polishing and now have what I consider to be a decent job
the blade was an old sheffield scout knife with no edge or tip.The antler was rescued from its handle and cut down as it was a bit thin at each end.I had to re-shape the blade to shorten it and give it a point.I made half the handle out of a piece of black walnut(cut from a floorboard that was surpless to an order for a Habitat showroom floor) i used an old saddle flap to make stacked leather spacers and then the antler.Another piece of walnut for the pommel toped off with a 5p coin and then piened the end of the tang. Its my first propper home made knife, I'll post a picture when I work out how to. Thanks again for your help and all the offers :thanks: It was an effort as the only power tool I have is an electric hammer drill!

That is very impressive. It is incredible what you can do with some thought and inituitive. Very good. When I try it does not turn out that good.
