The rifle is stamped as a 7.62x51 mate, but that's of course just the Nato name for .308 Winchester.

For range work i can use good old Random Green and for deer either hand loaded expanding or factory ammo. Shoots very well! Threaded the shot into that buck from 110 yards through some thick cover to the right of the photo. Had to sit waiting for him to take one step into a clear line of sight for the shot. He'd been caning some young trees in a plantation behind where he is in the photo and he had to go afore i got a phone call about it!

    Re: Lets see your rifles?

It's not a rifle, but it's the last firearm I owned before leaving the UK

It was hell on wheels with Brenneke slugs

I fitted the HK sights, SAW grip and Galil type fore-end for extra assualty type goodness.

    Is that a Schmidt-Rubin 1889?

Lovely wood, is it refinished original?

They are supposed to be very effective at rapid fire.

Only cleaned the dirt of decades, it's a G 11
I think in accuracy and efficiency I would prefer an AK 47 against me rather then this one in Afghanistan.

    That's a real beauty.

The straight pull is really nice to use but the rearward bolt travel on the early Schmidts is rather long compared to the later K31 and that cocking ring can poke the unwary shooter in the eye!!!!!! Luckily I do not speak from experience because a dealer mate who owned the rifles warned me before I made a fool of myself.
Ask the question and you are a fool for five minutes......don't ask the question and you are a fool for life.

    Re: Lets see your rifles?

I myself am not able to fire rapid shots, in Switzerland I have seen veterans who were able to perform very well.Every type of rifle: lever, Mauser, Smith Rubin, pump has pros and contras. So the "real" hunters use only the "one shot "types.I like very much the Ruger no 1.

I have a Schmidt-Rubin K31 and although it doesn't look as pretty as yours, it shoots very nicely.
