    Another one on the way

Having had a near disaster with my last blade, I've started another recycle job. The leaf spring is all gone so I've just ground out the profile for a nice full tang from my Kith fall back blank which was a second meaty (but broken) file.

There was enough steel for a 21cm piece so it has worked out at 100mm blade with a 110mm handle. There is more than 5mm of steel to work with, so I'll probably grind it full flat.

I'm a sucker for punishment so I'll probably try clay backing and a water / oil interrupted quench in order to get a hamon.
It should work on the file, it did on my kith knife ( which was a file) but not on the last Landy spring blade, which isnt a water quench steel is it? It cracked badly even though it was left thick and smooth on the edge.

I should get a bit done this weekend and may get to the ht stage even with the footy and rugby getting in the way.I'll keep you posted.
After this one its o1 all the way.

The file may well react better than spring steel to a water job, but its a risky biz all the same good luck!

With the number of recent births from BB members partners, seeing this title made me get the congratulations ready again!

Believe me Tiffers I don't want another one of those "on the way". I've got 2 already 17 and 16 ( and they're great) but i dont want to start off down that road again at my stage of life. Putting 2 through university is a daunting enough thought. I'll stick to giving birth to the occasional cracked blade.
