Kiln
WITHDRAWN
OK, a long shot here given the size, weight and delivery difficulties, but...
I'm getting rid of one of my kilns since it's basically a duplicate piece of kit.
Made by PODMORE & SONS, Shelton.

External dimensions (including stand):
33" x 33" x 54.5"
Chamber dimensions:
18.5" x 19.5" x 18.5"
Now, the interesting details:
Rating: 9.62kW (3 phase)
Max temp: 1300 degrees C making it ideal for knife steel.
The whole thing is in good, fully working order and the chamber condition is very good. They're relatively easy to set up to single phase.
I've quite a few spare element coils that can go with it, and in the unlikely event that you want to use it for clay
I've a few new shelves and stands.
Note that there is no digital controller on this one.
It's a big, strong, very robust bit of kit and I've got it in storage in a garage on a small, wheeled trolley.
Due to weight buyer would have to collect in large van or very strong trailer (North Tyneside area).
Looking for £145.
There won't be any price drops on this, and I'll be advertising it locally.Last edited by Xunil; 21-10-07 at 09:34 AM.

Re: Kiln
Whats the external dimensions? Also what would have to be done to it to convert it to 240v
Cheers

Re: Kiln
Ahem:
I'd suggest getting an electrician involved for the 3 phase to single conversion. It's not expensive but, well, when you're colourblind like me messing with electrics isn't the wisest of moves...
Basically the kiln itself could be rewired (a bit radical but easy enough) or an inverter can be set in place to run standard 240 volts to it.
Some people use a 40 amp cooker socket which, again, is a relatively simple enough setup.
There's a bunch of ways to do this and it very much depends on where (in relation to your domestic supply) the kiln will be located.Last edited by Xunil; 16-10-07 at 12:43 PM.

Re: Kiln
They mostly go for more, but what I'm asking is what I paid.
I was lucky enough to buy it at that price a year or so ago, and if I didn't already have three on the go with digital controllers I'd be keeping it.
As it stands they tend to last for a very long time so I doubt I'll ever get to use it. They're kind of a "set it up once and just use it" device. Every now and then an element might pop but in general they tend to just go on, and on, and on...
A bit like myself
I'll be advertising it locally later this week and I doubt it'll hang around very long.
For knifemaking it's a really useful size. Small bench top ovens are OK for little knives but this can handle up to two feet if you place your piece diagonally. Most blades I treated at once in it was twenty, all hanging vertically from a 'cage' I built to sit inside the kiln.
What's really useful is the ability to normalise, heat to harden and then allow to cool enough to start your tempering cycle, and the fact it goes up to 1300C means you can even do the high-end alloys.
Anyhow, TY for the general interest

Re: Kiln
OK, thanks to all who viewed, but I'll withdraw it from sale and advertise it locally and perhaps on eBay (with a reserve).
Gerd said he'd have it like a shot, but since he's in Norway and I'm not...

Thanks again.
