Re: Ah, SAK
Ive done it for myself but wouldnt do it for money, too much trouble. My oldest SAK not quite my first knife but bought for me by my dad when I was 10ish like Danzo and certainly my most used/carried knife was in a bit of a state, had been stuck in the washing machine for a while at one time (liners corroded and scales melted) Id fitted wooden scales which were rather battered, the awl was broken, the corkscrew was broken, maybe something else was broken I cant remember. I got some bits from BMG and my friend had another broken SAK that I offered to get BMG to replace for him (I cannibalised some biits from it before sending it to them). I made new brass liners, replaced the broken bits and added new red scales to my old one and I havent carried it since for fear of losing it

Re: Ah, SAK
I have a green jelly classic on my house keys, and a classic on each of my sets of car keys, and regularly carry a Soldier, the climber is probably my favourite plastic scaled one.
I still have my very first one, a huntsman,my first knife that wasn't a hand me down, I got it for my 11th birthday.
I don't think my fingernails have ever been cut with anything other than a SAK

Re: Ah, SAK
Yeah, its retired but I miss the familiarty of my old user, Im skint this xmas but fortunately already have enough spare SAK's
My old one is like a climber but no hook and it was the economy version, good size for a SAK, I have a couple of other climbers, classic on keyring (everyone has a classic on their keyring dont they?). Now I mostly carry a GAK, but I also like the chequered plastic solo, had a champion once but found it much too big and gave it away. Just got a junior in a trade, maybe a bit small. Would like to try an Alox or two, never had one

Re: Ah, SAK
So, anyone treating themselves to any for the end of the year? Or persuading anyone to treat them to one perhaps

I've a red alox farmer coming from America,(hope).
Using a wenger soldier just now 'cos of carry bail and slightly thicker main blade which my vic' one doesn't have.
Others i've used are climber, explorer and rucsac.
All excellent in their uses.

Re: Ah, SAK
The Huntsman is fiendish useful, but that extra layer is a pest - too bulky - and the saw is really only any good for crusty bread in the end - so I think I have a vote of the Climber too
