MSR XGK multifuel
I'm wondering if anybody has any experience with this? I can get it for approx. 80 £, is it worth it?
I need a new burner, but im not sure what to get. My main use will be cooking full meals, not just boiling water for a cup of tea
. Full-year use, and preferably fairly light weight. Gas is not an option as it can get cold here in Norway...

Re: MSR XGK multifuel
Friend of mine has one, I was playing with it last night funnily enough, though I didnt light it.
He seems to like it but uses his whisperlite more, from what I can gather the XGK doesnt simmer which can be a pain, its either on or off, so good for boiling water not so good for cooking elaborate meals
Personally I much prefer the Primus or Optimus multifuel stoves, I believe theyve overtaken MSR in terms of quality and reliability and unlike the XGK they will simmer. Ive never much liked the plastic pumps on the MSR's but my mate always reminds me that his have never given him any problems.
I have the Primus MFS and cant fault it, it has the advantage over the Optimus of running on gas as well, you say you dont need gas but its handy to have the option and while butane certainly does freeze up (Ive sat in a sleeeping bag in the past clutching a frozen butane cylinder to try and thaw it enough to heat the tent, no fun) the modern butane propane mixes will go a bit colder.Last edited by Jason_01; 06-01-08 at 04:34 PM.

I would also buy the Optimus or Primus before the MSR any day.
Have a look at this excellent thread!

Re: MSR XGK multifuel
I have one of the Mk1's - basically the same I think, just dosn't have the shaking 'pricker' and I LOVE IT!!!
I love it it is so simple, easy to strip right down in the field for cleaning if necessary - burns all sorts of fuel with no problem. It is quick and VERY Hot and works well in low temps as long as you have something to prime it with as it's hard to light unleaded in the cold
It is rather noisy (akin to a hot air baloon burner when used in a tent in a quiet campsite) and is not that adjustable - it is but you need to get the feel of it...
Personally I think it is a great Stove and wouldn't hesitate to replace it with another (no that I can ever see it wearing out!)
