Waterproof raincoat for hiking

Hello, guys,
I was recently walking and found out that my raincoat is not waterproof any more. It is about 6 years old, so probably it has seen its best days. But when I talked with other hikers I found out that most of them got wet too because the rain was heavy.
So, my question is what raincoat would you recommend? It should be waterpoof and lightweight. I met one guy with Lowe Alpine raincoat and he said that he did not get wet from rain, but from his sweat because his coat is not breazable. So, I would prefer something brezable, but also not too expensive, probably £30 as max. But of course if raincoat be good I may decide to pay more than this.

good old fashioned waxproof cotton has a lot going for it aka barbour jackets and others

not the newest or most high tech fabric but tried and tested and still popular

nice thing about it is it doesn't rustle like many newer fabrics

on the down side it is not very warm although windproof

biggest problem i have is finding one long enough so that it covers to the top of my wellies

I've been in search of the perfect walking jacket for over 25 years and it doesn't exist.
£30 - 100 and you won't see any difference, 150 - 200 and you MIGHT.
Depends on so many factors (...how much do you sweat?). Just accept you're going to get condensate inside the jacket and that it'll be a bit grotty to walk in 'til you can dry off.
Definitely look at the French forces Goretex jackets (phenominal value £80 - 90) if you don't mind a camo pattern waterproof.

I saw Henri Lloyd Horizon II Jacket on sale in Outlet store and another jacket from Timberland made of Entrant DT material. I do not know much about both companies, but attached papers say that Henri Lloyd offers Pulse technology and saleswoman said that every sinlge jacket was factory tested, while Timberland jacket are waterproof up to 5000 mm of water (when I selected tent I bought a tent waterproof to 5000 mm because I was told it should withstand any rain in the UK unless I go somewhere where nobody goes).
Could you give me addtional information, are both these companies good and are these "hi-tech" technologies really good?
