Re: More back pack help please? Maxp v Sabre
Well I run warm. There's a Swanni in the pic and I usually wear a long sleeve t-shirt under a norgy army shirt or wool shirt when its cold, and like I say my ventile on top. Gloves or hat, well I'll stuff em in my jacket or under lid, and I always have a Buff in my jacket pocket.
The sleeping bag has a cotton liner in it, it is a low rating, but like I say I run warm and if its really brass monkeys then I'll jump in with my kit on.....or not be out in the first place *cough* fair weather bushwhacker *cough*
Well there's also two packets of noodle soup and my tiffin tin of tricks in the pic. Hey I think I did quite well for a quick mock up of what I take!
ps. My beef jerky and stout (spicy) bannock is a thing of legend. It tastes just like (spicy) steak pie *drool*Last edited by scruff; 21-02-08 at 11:11 PM.

Re: More back pack help please? Maxp v Sabre
I've a sabre 45,
In the main sac fits a karrimor 2 season bag with silk liner and army bivi, not in stuff sacs, this allows the gear to 'mould' to bag shape.
In the 'pouch' within main comp't goes an alpkit wee airic(big difference from the reg')sleepmat.
This leaves plenty of room for 'whatever'.(those non essential things, unless food or couple of water flasks).
In the top pocket of lid goes tarp and w/proof trousers, set of bungeescompass and map.
In mesh pckt u/neath lid goes fak, fenix, petzel and burn cream.
In side pockets go crusader cook kit and or hobo stove along with extra hexi and meth burners.
Leaves plenty of room for a nice 'bottle' or try & stuff the Guiness everywhere
So, a smallish sac with add' pckts like the sabre should suffice, even for more than a couple of nights out.
Axe and saw are attached o/side if needed.

Ah hah!

Och... I've seen loads of "which rucksack" threads all over the place (I'm sure you have too) and they usually end in weird debates... but.. I am genuinely interested to see what other people are packing and using when they go out camping.
I like Spring and Autumn for long hikes.. so I have to pack clothing with the thought that I might not have a fire and enough food to keep me going.
I'll be heading for the hills soon so I'll take a photo of what's going in the pack.
Cheers.

Re: More back pack help please? Maxp v Sabre
Hey no worries. Its the same gear I took out with me to the BCUK Middlewood meet which was the weekend in and around 1st December. Next one will be end of March, nowt much will change, well we may have a big cook up but its "car camping" anyway so I guess it doesn't really count.
I guess with the lack of places to have open fires and wild camp I'm used to lugging around the Trangia too, plus I like the idea of not needing to light a fire, I'd only be using it to cook anyway. I will have dried food, fruit and nuts and theres tea, hot chocolate, rice, cous cous and other bits in my tiffin tin, enough to tide me over for a extra few days.
Your right about the whole "whats in your pack thing", its a funny one. I've been away so many times with my mates and they've not even brought water! Went away during last summer and on of my mates brought a mattress, I kid ye not. Luckily we only had to walk a mile or so to get to camp from where we parked. Boy did he whinge.
Spring / Autumn are definitely great times to be out. Seasons of change.
Well have fun where ever you wonder, and please do take some good snaps to share.
Warm regards
EDIT: Oh sorry Mr Psitt, we bandito'd that one.Last edited by scruff; 21-02-08 at 11:42 PM.
