Unfortunately I have not had the chance to take many picture of the knifes and their owner. I will try to remedy this in the summer!

    Re: Amazing Viking knives!!!

    Hi guys!

I will try to take some pictures when I make a couple of fittings. Basically it is just folded and stamped sheath metal, riveted to the leather. I put the grooves in the metal with a cold chisel and bend the plate over a sharp edge in a vice to get a good fold.

Here is a couple of knifes in the making. I am working on the still but I thought it could be fun to see.

The top blade is from Aage Frederiksen and the pattern welded one is a reground machined blade from india.

    Hi Edvin

Fantastic knife and good that you made contact with Aage, Mr. Viking Smith No. 1. A blade that fits nicely for your knives. Well done to you both.

    Best regards Lars

    Re: Amazing Viking knives!!!

    Thank you all!

Later this week I'm going to do some measurements on a couple of original knifes and sheaths. If there is interest I can try to get permission to post some pictures.

Aage Frederiksen has been really great to work with. I have ordered ten more blades like the one above and will start to make a good portion of new orders with these.

It will take a while though. Shipping to Sweden was expensive so Aage is sending them with Ottar, a reconstruction of a viking ship sailing from Denmark to Gotland. Good to know some things like trade haven't changed very much since the viking age.

    Hi guys!

Here comes another viking knife with sheath. This one is a bit special, after many years i finally took time to make a knife for myself! Here it is together with the rest of my (unfortunately quite banged up) viking kit.

I would also like to announce Audhumbla is now on Facebook! Lots of updates from the workbench, items for sale and more. We have just started up so join us here.

    Re: Amazing Viking knives!!!

Very very nice work and artisianship, the work is fantastic as is the attention to details. My biggest question is "How did/do you bend the metal around the end of the sheath like that"?
I understand that it comes in thin sheets and you do the layout and decorative stampings, drill the holes, etc., but I havent been able to figure out how you bend it without leaving a crease in the metal.
These sheath's are something I now want to try to learn to do.

And I've been struggling with my sheath for about 30 hrs.

Edvin, I love or hate you. I think your kit looks great. Copper and brass/bronze age wonderfully.
