Re: Vintage Sheffield folder's (pic heavy !)

[QUOTE=Iron Hoarder;1942809]Nothing special about this ivorine pen knife but an interesting tang stamp.

Although they're not mentioned in either the 1901 or 1905 directories, the Busybuff Co in Sheffield were principally 'Cleaners and Buffers' to the cutlery trade around that time.

[QUOTE=Miller Bro`s;1943024]This is a rather nice old Rodgers Quill Knife

Does it have the Star/Maltese Cross marks on the pile side of the tang.

Having a slightly hollow back to the blade and short bolsters it is very much in the Joseph Rodgers mould; but G Crown R over Cutlers over G1235 on the mark side reveals nothing about the maker.

Help With an old Horsemans' Please. Can anyone here help me in dating an old Horsemans knife stamped as W WEB but Possibly W WEBB or even WEBBLEY or WEBLEY over SYCAMORE WORKS. It has a removeable thumb lance in toroise-shell liners, fleam, long pick, tweezers, hoof pick, reamer (spike), corkscrew and main sheepsfoot blade with possibly (well worn) spearpoint smaller blade. Hopefully a photo to follow at some stage.
    Many Thanks.
    Jim.

Was talking to my mum earlier, noticed this lil Richards on her keyring so grabbed a couple of pictures.
Asked if she knew how long she'd had it, and apparently I gave her it a few years ago

    .................................................. ....

It's William Webster Jim.. He also used the mark of a stag's head with WILLSTER - a mixture of his two names.
The firm and its marks were bought by Harrison Bros & Howson in 1894 a year before Webster died.

A mystery solved! A collector over on www.allaboutpocketknives.com has found another of the knives like my Ocean Insurance advertiser but with the levers. You can also see a stamp that says Germany on it.

Tom, sorry for the delay. I had a hard time finding the little knife again

The mark side is marked G (crown) R , over, J. Rodgers, over, & sons.

Nothing stamped on the pile side.

    Thank You.

That is a very interesting old knife. Wish I had found it. I'm sure one of the more knowledgeable ones will be able to help you a bit.

    Scotia, J McClory Sheffield

Mappin & Webb. Checked horn scales.

Slater with light Venture etch on blade.

Broken but interesting. Two all metals with maker and store stamps. The champagne one has the whittler patten spring arrangement on the foil cutter.
