Re: Vintage Sheffield folder's (pic heavy !)
This is a little Wostenholm pen knife with Firth Stainless blades circa 1930ish I think.

Re: Vintage Sheffield folder's (pic heavy !)
umm...can see your fingerprints on one blade S-K tut tut..
I sold a couple of these knives last year ,one in pearl as shown and one the same but in celluloid pearl, they really are sweet little items, I think as you do S-K 1930 ish but they were made up until the early 40s with the Firth marked blades, though blades would have been used up in later knives. However if the knife has a carbon backspring it could be a few years earlier ?
Thanks for showing

Re: Vintage Sheffield folder's (pic heavy !)
Thanks very much for the replies everyone. Very happy to see that you enjoy the knives Dave, Dave, & Tom. I greatly appreciate seeing the knives posted here by others and the valuable information provided.
Mick, I'll be wiping the finger print off asap. I have the same knife in mop and imitation pearl but marked 'Stainless Steel', not Firths, so I assume these were made later. I have one other with Firths Steel it a little larger than the one shown above.

Re: Vintage Sheffield folder's (pic heavy !)
Just acquired a folder made by Imperial in the US. It's one of these pressed steel simulated wossnames. Not very nice but of interest because of the construction.
The new camera should be here this week so I will post some pics of this one & a Harrison Brothers & Howson doctor's knife. Plus anything else I've got that qualifies as Vintage & Sheffield. Not a lot
.

Re: Vintage Sheffield folder's (pic heavy !)
Looking forward to seeing your knives David,
Here are a couple more,
the first is a Sheffield pattern Ibberson made in 1938 hand forged blades, original polish, milled liners 3 pc, engaved in house with someones signiture, any ideas ?

This second knife is another mystery, it was on a Wosty salesmans display board , a conress 4 pc, carbon, square tangs, no tang stamps, lovely cut in swage on the masterblade, surely Sheff made ??

Mick, as always, those knives are fantastic. I remember watching the Ibberson a while ago. Do you have an idea re the age range of the congress knife? Thanks.

Re: Vintage Sheffield folder's (pic heavy !)
Hi S-K , the Ibberson lobster was made in 1938 by Fred Osborne, the one I showed before was another made in 39 by his bro Ted,( I think, but I may be getting mixed up
) ( I will hunt through my previous posts to check).
The congress was attached on a board with another 19 samples, I kept the best half doz and sold the rest, regretted it since. I think they were made in the mid to late fiftees.
The H & H 3 pc is another very fine knife, I really like the knives with the Alpha crown tang stamp, thanks for showing !
Mick
Edit, Just checked, the only Sheffield pattern lobster ( I think ?) pic I have posted before is the EO-39 one mentioned above,
can be seen here, on the far right

Re: Vintage Sheffield folder's (pic heavy !)
Thanks Mick. I really like the 3 pc sleeveboard lobster pattern and you have some very fine examples.
I can not be of any help with your congress knife.
In response to your comment on the Alpha knives, here is one more. The blades are well worn but still snap nicely. I have some larger Alpha folders but those are for another time.

Re: Vintage Sheffield folder's (pic heavy !)
Nice Apha.
not sure about the Congress.....
not a very 'normal' pattern, but the nail file is good for Sheffield, in my opinion.
I suppose it might have been just a sample piece.

Re: Vintage Sheffield folder's (pic heavy !)
Thanks for the comments S-K and Hector
I am fairly sure the congress was made by Wostenholm, but having no marks its impossible to be certain,( just checked the blades on the congress & the wosty whittler on page one of this thread, they came attached, the manicure blades are identical !, so well spotted Hector )
the Alpha penknife looks nice, would like to see more examples if pos ?. A question S-K , could you give an idea on dates (on the 2 H & H knives) ?,
Just three more knives,
The first one is a W Rodgers horseman's made in 1977, all carbon inc liners, hafted in horn

This jack knife was made by J Rodgers in about 1950, hafted in xylonite, marked, cutlers to his majesty

This equal end marked "cut my way" William Rodgers again 1977 file worked carbon( I have just dropped this knife and it now has a mark side hairline crack running through the balance riv
)

all for now
Mick
