Thank you for your comments for my knife.

    mito0;
Thank you very much for your important information.
I especially like the stag which was used for high quality knives in these age.
So I am very glad to learn about it more deeply thanks to your information.

A VERY fine and attractive looking Wostenholm 'whittler' KYJ, in pristine condition too, many thanks for showing..

Glenn, great to see more of your Stan Shaw collection. I especially like that multi bladed one with the silver blade.

Over the years Stan has certainly made an astonishing variety of knives, here's a pic of a 7" gold/red abalone one he made fairly recently...

My goodness, there has been so much good stuff posted in here in the last few weeks. I just want to say thanks to everyone for showing because it's difficult to acknowledge everything when there are so many things.

The wostenholm knife with fileworked inside is absolutely wonderful.

As for the knife you just posted there Mick, one of the best knives I have ever seen. Just incredible. The craftmanship there has to be the absolute best. Thanks for showing it as I have not seen it before.

Do you know how many tools it has? 14? Or is just a pair of scissors at the other end?

    beautiful, mick.
i wasn't aware he had made such fancy pieces in recent years.

somewhat off-topic, how does one lobby to get a person honored with the mbe?
does anyone else here think mr. shaw qualifies for that sort of recognition?

    Hi Andy,

The large Stan Shaw has 15 blades altogether.

The bars and bolsters are engraved by Simon Lytton..a great looking knife

Thanks for adding those great pictures Tom, they clearly show the knife in all its parts. The photos also give an insight into how much work goes into making these large display pieces...

The engraving on the gold looks exquisite.

Fantastic to see all those blades lined up like that. Stan looks really well too. As Mick said, it's great to be able to see pictures like this which give a small insight to the manufacturing process and how complex it really is.

Re: Vintage Sheffield folder's (pic heavy !)

Because Stan and I go back for more years than either of us care to remember, coupled with our weekly meet-ups at Fagan's Bar for the past twenty years or so, many think - and understandably I suppose - that I must gave built up the largest Stan Shaw knife collection around. If only that were so, but I've never thought of trading on our friendship and this is the only knife Stan has ever made for me.
Solid silver five piece, 3059 pattern, three inches closed, to commemorate the Christening of my youngest grandson four years ago.

n.b. Having said that, a good many of his knives, including those he made whilst at Ibbersons, have passed through my hands. These were bought at antiques fairs and elsewhere on behalf of my group of collector friends.

Just two days a week - usually Monday's and Wednesday's, but this can vary if his son-in-law Keith is unable to drive him from Deepcar to Kelham first thing on a morning and then back home again later in the day: although I have to say that this doesn't happen often.

Sometimes he works until 2.30pm and occasionally until 4pm. He still drives his own car, but prefers these days not to drive it through the city if possible

A word of advice to would be visitors - always telephone Kelham first.

As well as the general public, large parties of schoolchildren and other groups attend the Museum regularly and the arrangement that Stan has with the Management is that these groups can watch him at work through his workshop windows only; the workshop door into the Museum itself is kept locked. His time these days is at an absolute premium and he would get no work done whatsoever if he had to break off continually to answer questions and the inevitable posing for photos.

There are certain jobs such as those not requiring wheel power that he does at home in his garden shed and he can do that as and when home circumstances allow.
