Re: Vintage Sheffield folder's (pic heavy !)
Thanks for the info Gents, my Dad was a farmer during and after the 2nd WW, so that makes sense.
This knife has a special place in my own collection now, I will not carry it in case of loss!!
I have a couple of hundred knives, mainly auto's, and my edc is a kershaw leak, which is a sweet little knife.
Was into making Italian switchblades for several years after buying a stack of them, but progressed to collecting guns and the knife making slowed down as restoring Enfields took over, as well as building the occasional AK47 from the parts kits available over here.
thanks again.
Rob.

Re: Vintage Sheffield folder's (pic heavy !)
Newsflash!
Cindy Taylor has just written to Wellington Mick and myself to inform us of Joe (Yaro5) Yarrows admission to hospital ten days ago following a massive heart attack. He is now in re-hab.
Others may have already heard the news, but I feel sure that ALL the contributors to this thread will join in to wish Joe a full and very speedy recovery.

Re: Vintage Sheffield folder's (pic heavy !)
Keep putting photos of those old antique knives on here . I collect folding knives made in the 18th and19th century and there sure is a lot of eye candy on here, plus some of the best history I have seen. Thank you guys for having this forum.

Copy of email mrssage from Joe's wife Janet to Cindy Taylor, which she has asked to be passed on to BB members; it reads thus:-

Re: Vintage Sheffield folder's (pic heavy !)
Thanks for the update, Tom. It seems I was confused about who was married to who in my post a couple of days ago, but who cares? Good news of this sort is what's really important.

I'm a tad late, but I am very glad Joe is progressing well.
I wish him strength and speed of recovery.

Re: Vintage Sheffield folder's (pic heavy !)
I received the remains of a small ivory scaled penknife stamped Bushwell Bristol today. Does any one know if this was a maker or just a retailer? It's such a sad old thing, not much more than a memory of a knife that I won't trouble you with a picture.

Re: Vintage Sheffield folder's (pic heavy !)
Another name for G.T. to include perhaps in the final edition of his Directory.
This came my way earlier today; an L.N.E.R railwayman's knife struck with ? Mather & Son Sheffield on the mark side and L.N.E. on the pile side. The fourth letter 'R' has been lost at source when grinding the kick to sit between the liners.
LNER stands for London and North Eastern Railway for the benefit of those who aren't familiar.

Cool I love the old single blade work knives. That one is very similar to the old Case that I carry every day.
