Re: Vintage Sheffield folder's (pic heavy !)
OOOOOhh I've just dribbled down my beard! I should have looked at these one page at a time with a vigorous rub down with a rough towel in between instead of pigging out all in one go! I don't think I'll be able to sleep now, images of MOP and stag will haunt me into the small hours. Is there a thread for dog rough Sheffield tat where I can post some of my knives?

I'm tempted to start a thread so that we can all show the most dilapidated knife we own...us Sheffield collectors will sweep the board...

Re: Vintage Sheffield folder's (pic heavy !)
Thanks for the information Mick. I suppose the blade on the first button hook knife may have been replaced at one time. If so, it was well done. The fit is excellent both open and closed and good snap. The patination on the spring and top of blade match so maybe an old repair? Don't know about the bail on the little knife. The pin on one side does look a little rough.
Perhaps we can convince Grace to show some of her old fruit knives please!
This knife was made by Harrison Bros & Howson and marked Cutlers to Her Majesty. Late Victorian era I think. Have a great day everyone.

Re: Vintage Sheffield folder's (pic heavy !)
Very nice looking H&H there S-K, difficult to tell from the pic, is there a broad file scraper, along side the master blade ? and long picker running along side the corkscrew ?, 7 pc in all ? bet this type of knife took a lot of making, great item, very nice to see the pick and tweezers along side.
Thanks for showing
Here is a pic of a later bone 3 pc
Grace, if you show us your's , we may show you our's

Re: Vintage Sheffield folder's (pic heavy !)
Thanks for the responce S-K, I can make it out now, a really nice item !
All metal knives aren't just as popular with collectors, but there are a few exceptions.
Here is a Farlows single spring lobster fishing knife, made I think Ted Osborne at Ibbersons in 1961.

Re: Vintage Sheffield folder's (pic heavy !)
I'm up for some of that! Got a special high security quarentine box I keep stuff in thats not good enough to throw away, daren't put it in the bin in case someone spots it and reports me to the RSPCK. There's a couple of really nasty Wosties that were in there last time I dared to look, although one seemed to be about to self-destruct. Can't understand it, they looked perfectly OK on fleabay, I'm sure I was sober when I bought them, looks like postie sent them through a space time vaccuum thingy.
I don't mind having the p taken, it happens all the time, been told more than once I look like a cross between Ossama Bin Ladin and Karl Marx, so can we? please?

Re: Vintage Sheffield folder's (pic heavy !)
interesting comments there Dave, I think we all have had more than a few ahmm..... shaky evilbay buys
, I usually palm the duffer's off on family as Birthday and Xmas pressies
but the rest will come in handy as users one day
Anyway, to round my contribution off on this thread, I could post a couple of my favorite mini collections tomorrow nightish , coin knives & Mills coffin knives
if anyone would like to see them ?
pictured below is a coffin knife, the four part marks show Herbert Slaters sponsors mark, the new sheffield mark (76) 1977. the blades are marked Needham Repeat (a mark owned by Slaters)

Anymore knife pics more than welcome......
Mick

Re: Vintage Sheffield folder's (pic heavy !)
That was very funny Dave. I am sure I have some to contribute to the RSPCK.
Definitely interested in seeing more Mick. I like those older fishing knives.... great style and function. I don't have any coffin knives so this jumbo pen knife is my next entry by George Butler. It is aproximately 4 inches long .

Re: Vintage Sheffield folder's (pic heavy !)
Very nice knife there S-K, ticks all the boxes, long, good ivory, well marked, stylish pattern, full blades, I really like it.
Butlers used very good steel in their blades, I think it really shows when you look at their old knives.
Dont know why, but they always seem very popular in Aus ?
Thanks for showing !

Re: Vintage Sheffield folder's (pic heavy !)
As promised yesterday, my five "crown" or "coffin" knives made by Mills,

These two pictures show the Gold Mills (1977) in front, then the next two are identical Joseph Rodgers (mid 1930s) then the third pearl Mills then silver at the back, The pearl knives are of outstanding quality mint chamfered around the edges, gold leaf under the pearl, the backsprings are guilded and fileworked, very finely milled liners,
The five knives have taken 15 yrs to collect
Another view of the same knives, the second pic shows the two identical JRs cutlers to his majesty.
