    Pennilion Earth Tones

So much month left at the end of the money! I'm afraid i'm going to have to move this little beauty on. I've had it for a few months now and not used it. As much as it is glorious to look at and hold, i cannot justify holding onto it any longer. Someone else should have the opportunity to enjoy this tremendous piece. Mik (Pennilion) is a true caftsman as any who have experienced his work will attest to. This wonderfully understated and capable knife is built around a Poul Strande damascus blade with a scandi grind. It comes in a padded, faux fur lined case. This was the thread i got it from:

Punish me for my heresay as it is crying out to be used. All i want is what i paid so Withdrawn from sale which includes Paypal fee's and RMSD. Thanks for looking.

Great knife - and a good price for such workmanship.

Jed - is it meant to be used with a zero edge or with a secondary bevel?

I can't quite tell from the picture, the pattern's confusing my poor old brain...

    Hi Rod,

I have that same blade in a later Mik knife. It came with a very small secondary but the primary is at something like 22 or so it was not a big job for me to take it to a 25 degree single bevel which is my preferred for woodcarving.

    Thanks Robin,

I've never got my hands on a Strande blade yet, they're always a bit spendy for me to make one of my ham-fisted attempts at handling. Nice to know they'd be good for carving.

It can be quite tricky working out which pre-made blades would be best suited. I've a little list of those I know are meant to be zero ground, but you have to buy one and actually handle it to find out generally. If only I could get to Dennis' stall at Knives '09 next year...

    Hi Rod,

it looks very much like it is a zero edge, if there is a secondary bevel it is a micro bevel that is difficult to detect with the naked eye, though i may be having the same problems as you!

Some dimensions; 85mm blade with a 110mm handle. The blade is 23.5mm at it's widest point and 3mm thick.

If someone wants this, they'd better get in quick. The more i'm handling this, the more i'm thinking i may just keep hold of it. The more i see and feel Mik's work, the more impressed i am.

Still available, may consider trades of a Surefire nature! Maybe a E2D LED Defender or C2 Centurion LED.
