is there an ethnic irish knife?

My wife will have a trip to Ireland soon and asked me about souveniers.
    That got me thinking.
We, estonians, have our puss, our finnish neighbours have their puuko, there's the spanish muela etc
Do the irish have their own historical and unique to them knife style?

I'm not sure about traditional Irish knives. I don't know of any Welsh ones either.

well, it's very-very similar to finnish puuko
actually, both types are defined broadly enough to practically overlap.
"officially" the main difference (i just recently learned it) is that our knife has wider "shoulders"
    of bolster around the blade

    basically: http://noapood.lipso.net/nuga_nr2.jpg (bb thread http://www.britishblades.com/forums/...ad.php?t=61448)
    and http://pildid.lipso.net/noakuulutus/ (bb thread http://www.britishblades.com/forums/...ad.php?t=59729)

none of them might not be actually pure-style anything, but should illustrate the point.
but all three do qualify ass "puss", as i made them and i'm estonian
ok, we also call puuko "soome puss" (soome - finnish)

Re: is there an ethnic irish knife?

i've old photos of my local area and thought id seen some pics with knives in them but unfortunately there was none. i honestly dont know if there is an ethnic irish knife i would be interested in it myself . i thought i would post this pic as it shows some weaponry in it you have to look closely but they are there its taken inside a 14th century norman tower house that was bought and restored by a belfast solicitor in 1911 so this pic is taken sometime after that (this is not the original but is copied from it)
