Re: BB Library trial run
Super dooper special praise from a beginner who would probably never find a book on knife making otherwise.
I wish I knew what Rep was and how to give it. Most kind indeed.
Grace I have no rep to Give as such, but it is given nevertheless.Last edited by The Real Barney; 30-09-08 at 06:56 PM. Reason: to give REP

Scissor Sam says Be Sharp
An Authentic Manual on the Sharpening and care of Scissors & Tools
Prepared personally by the nationally famous scissor doctor Sam Long
I haven't felt the need before now to write a review of a book but this one is special. It comes from my fathers library and it's a rare gem of a book. Only 50 pages long, it describes the work and philiosophy of Sam Long, an American itinerent sharpener who started travelling in 1957.
"...There's nothing like it anywhere. It's the complete book on sharpening scissors and household tools. All my trade secrets. And I got philosophy in it too..."
So if you're interested in sharpening (including knives, saws, lawnmowers, can openers, food processor blades etc), social history or just fancy a bit of light reading in a knife related subject, I'd thoroughly recommend this little book.High Priestess of the Small and Foldy...

Available to borrow...
Explanation or Key to the various Manufacturies of Sheffield; Joseph Smith; 1975
This has already had some discussion on another thread but this is a reprint of a book of engravings done by Smith in 1801. There is some doubt about the original reason for complying a book of Sheffield-made tools (everything from hammers and files to folding knives and trepanning instruments) but it was possible that the manufacturers would then buy the sheets relevent to their trade and use them to illustrate price lists and catalogues.
Thai Mother-of-pearl Inlay; J Byachrananda; 0-500-97600-7; 2001
This has come to us from Steve111. It has a section on how the inlay is done (including photos of the process) but it is also includes a huge number of examples.High Priestess of the Small and Foldy...
