karrimor side pouches, help for 90's pack
following a thread on aother site (bcuk) i've had a look in my shed at an old karrimor military rucksack i bought in the early 90's.
it's a karrimor jaguar ws 85 in ks110e, in its day a quality sac.
looking at their current military sacs it must be old version of this:
http://www.penrithsurvival.com/penri...ts/pid/1076318
mine is 2 compartment with a large front pocket, but doesn't have any side pockets (expanding or otherwise), or zips to attatch "plce?" pockets, but it does have pairs of compresssion straps passing through plastic reinforcing sleeves.
I'm sure you could get side pockets for it at one time
do any of the gear freaks remember how pockets attatched to the old karrimor sacs, and if they are still availiable?
no camera so no pics.

Has it got long plastic vertical strips-about 14 inches long-where a side pocket zip would be?

I have an Alpinst with what I think will be a similar system.
My mum did have a go at making pockets to fit but it didn't work all that well.
I have attached smaller pouches which are designed to work with the pals/molle system using Malice clips and would think you could get pockets that use this system without too much difficulty. Cost may be an issue though.WARNING contents of this post may not be consistant with reality

Re: karrimor side pouches, help for 90's pack
I don't know how much the pouches cost at the moment but I thought about modding some of the modern ones to retro fit
You could do it with a bit of 1" webbing. It may work best if you have one webbing loop in the middle of the plastic bits and one either side. You may get away without the middle one though. The pockets me/my mum made had six loops and seemed fairly secure but wer just too small, using proper pockets as a starting point would have been much better.
Of course sewing 8 or 12 loops of webbing onto the pockets may not be easy as it's all heavy duty material, I'm not sure if many household sewing machines would handle it so it may have to be done by hand.WARNING contents of this post may not be consistant with reality

Re: karrimor side pouches, help for 90's pack
the plastic bits were not for adding pouches.
I've got a Klasp system rucksack still in fairly regular use.
It had the extra patches. there were accessories that could be fitted to the patch/strap such as an ice tool holster.
now as to the PLCE pouches, mine have loops on the back that should mate with your side compression straps. I have an old Karrimor John Brown pack that mated perfectly in that fashion. If the thought of something makes me giggle for longer than 15 seconds, I am to assume that I am not allowed to do it.
