Re: Let's See your 4x4s
"When cooking on a camp fire it must be cool enough to cook on so it needs to burn down to coals, at least in parts. It is customary to drink beer while waiting for the fire to cool down.
I recommend starting with a very big fire"

Re: Let's See your 4x4s
Spent Easter weekend in Sailsbury plain, first time doing any distance in my Discovery 1 (the red one) and it only dumped a litre and a half of engine oil through the sump gasket, which is a good result considering its just off of 200k miles!

And out of the 6 Land Rovers that went, only 2 went home on a recovery truck (one other was towed home but that doesnt count
) and my corroded, tired old Disco wasnt one of them!

Now that looks like it was an awesome time!
Off road vehicles should get proper muddy as often as possible... And going by those photos, your disco certainly did!
Why do I get the feeling as you went through that big splash you had a huge grin and were probably laughing your head off? I would have been!
I can't stand seeing all the pristine 4x4s around where I work when you know they've never had a sniff of mud beyond possibly taking little Rowena's pony to the gymkhana and will never get properly dirty, dinged or scratched.... It's kind of sad

Re: Let's See your 4x4s
My 1972 tax exempt ambulance-soon-to-be-camper ... been saying that for a while now, trouble is there's always some whopping great bill that turns up just as you're about to commence the conversion; that's life!
Still, it now has a 300Tdi engine, auto box and a gret big intercooler from a Ford Transit. Pull like a train!
Unfortunately, the other day one of the heater hoses burst on a motorway which in turn led to head gasket problems, so now I hope to have it ready for the Adventure Overland Show in Northants for October. We'll see.

Re: Let's See your 4x4s
New here so hope this works out.
A few pics of my 4x4 - always ready to roll out on an adventure !

First was on a small camping trip to Cornwall !!
Second is a quick pic of the ex mod containers i use to store camping kit - these are £35 each (i have a few) and seem to be dust, mud and waterproof with dzus quick release lids.

Re: Let's See your 4x4s
My dad's just bought a freebie2 HSE a couple of weeks ago. I really, really like it. Superb vehicle. He says he bought it for my mum, but she cant get him out of it.

The only thing I don't like about it, was I thought the steering was a bit too sensitive/light. Minor irritation though and I dare say you'd get used to it if it's your motor.δxδp≥h/4π

Re: Let's See your 4x4s
Ste
Yeh it is a custom fabrication that I got a local fabricator here in guernsey to fab up to my design - the guy is Nick Greg of Fusion Engineering.
In person this thing is a work of art.
It has a fabricated mount that wraps around the truck cab and is sealed to the bulkhead. This mount holds the roll bar (not structural but will be part of a roof rack system) and a full length extreme weather aluminium and rubber hinge - yet to get water in this thing.
This then connects to the lid structure that is removeable and is a one piece folded thick skin over a frame. it is very strong and as i am about to fit some cargo tracking (to fit an array of racks like a basket and bikes etc) that should add to its rigidity.
Lid is designed to go over the top of landrovers cappings to prevent being pryed open.
All of this is in aluminium.
Gas struts a marine grade rod lock and locking latch and rubber weather stripping round it off.
I have more pics if you need them and happy to pass on contact details of fusion engineering if required.
