    Re: Simple blade grinding jig

I had a go with the one I lashed up the other day, it's not as elaborate as those but it does the job. I made a platen from a piece of aluminium for my Aldi grinder just to try it out and I think with a bit of stiffening under it will be well up to the job.

Looks a very workable set up
I knocked up a bigger table as well. I made a bit of a frame to support it, very simple but I'm pleased with how it works

I'll knock you one up in the week if you're interested, I'm sure there are enough bits left in the shed. It might be slightly different to my "prototype" but it will do the same job.

Jerbal the only difference as I see it is that the top hinge means that you dont have to elongate the hole for the bar. I almost missed it off and elongated the hole but was worried about the blade grabbing and the bar moving about wrecking the blade. Probably a needless concern.

    Re: Simple blade grinding jig

    Hello All

What with a weekend away and a short spell in hospital I have fallen a bit behind with the manufacture. I am expecting all orders to be dispatched by Tuesday or Wednesday, at the latest, next week.

    Sorry for the delay.

    Re: Simple blade grinding jig

Anyone made anything yet with their grinding jig? Not a magic wand is it

I got the platten extended and now the bolt that hols the original bed level keeps slipping due to the extra weight.
Anyway here is my first attempt with mine a flat grind about 3/4 the way up the blade and then a slight secondary which I have Convexed.

    Re: Simple blade grinding jig

To continue this I have made a simpler version of the jig which only uses 3 holes tapped 6mm and a piece of plate spaced to blade thickness with some washers. The plate has slots to drop over the screws for ease of altering. The back screw sets the angle and locks with a nut. I made a little blade with it on the Aldi grinder and knocked a handle up but it's not assembled or sanded yet.

    Re: Simple blade grinding jig

sorry for my ignorance here... just trying to work out what your doing

so you're clamping the blade to the jig, setting the angle you want to grind the knife face to on the jig, then passing the blade across the face of the belt by sliding the jig on the platen?
