Re: Lanyard knot
It can be done with any kind of rope.
It is easy to double and add more volume to the knot that way.
in stead of going "outside" the knot to go over the fix end and through the center you lay the "working end" along the fix(loop) part and follow it completely and end through the center.
This type of knot and turk's heads are much easyer to pull tight wit a set of fine round needlenosed pliers.

Re: Lanyard knot
Jan,
Can you please elaborate (with picture maybe?) on the doubling up of the lanyard knot? I have been messing around with a piece of para cord for several days with no result.
I have managed to get it to work by doubling the length that i work with to start with, but that leaves a a double end at the "knife" end.
Cheers

Re: Lanyard knot
Nice set of shots you've taken there.
If you like, you can add clarity to pix of knots by using two differently coloured lines so that when you've passed the initial simple stages it's a wee bit easier to tell what end's doing what, and where it's going.

Re: Lanyard knot
Nice knot, thanks. I found it a bit hard to get it to "sit nicely" though.
It was a bit easier to do when I figured that the whole thing is in fact symetrical, and what you do with one end you also do with the other, half a turn further round the knot (looking from on top). Hope this helps."Your work is both good and original. Unfortunately where it is good it is not original and where it is original it is not good."

Re: Lanyard knot
Just for those of us who loves to mess around with ropes and cords, it´s possible to "turn the knot the other way", i am a left hander and i found out áfter having the hang of the knot i desided to learn to tie it with my right hand to, i dont know the proper word in english... But it´s exactly like the other one, except it´s "the other way around".
If any one has understood anything of this nonsense... well they can certainly tie the knot too

Re: Lanyard knot
Not sure if it would work but could you Photoshop the photos to a mirror image and the get creative with the text! I don't know if its as simple as that but got to be worth a try!

Re: Lanyard knot
I know that knot as the chinese button or chinese pyjama button knot. It is the one you see on traditional costumes, the loop is obviously not left out so that you end up with a button. So tie a button version and a loop version and you have a means of closing something and keeping it closed. I don't know if this could be tied in leather thonging, it would look cool as a bag closure or similar.
