    Vinegar and iron dye

I have been experimenting with vinegar and iron dye and after several months I have got a great Black colour. Now here is the big question.

Dose anybody know how to stop the dyed leather smelling like yesterdays left over fish and chips wrapper!

I havent lost my mind, I've got it backed up on tape somewhere!!

A brief soak in a solution of bicarb... Followed by a month or two's airing. The white vinegars (or non-brewed condiment!) seem to give the least lingering results.

So it takes several months for the steel wool to react and to get a good dye. Then it takes another month or two for the smell to go. I think I will be using leather dye for the monocular case I am making my Dad (his old one is bust) and still be perverse and use smelly one on mine
