Kisu cable cutter
Try saying that fast after a few jars

This lovely knife was made by our very own BBer Kisu.

James made it for me to swing at Jacks hammerin cutting comp last year, on the previso it later be sold on for hammerin funds, so thats the next step, but wanted to show you all first the work this chap produces but not many see.
The knife is made from one piece of cable, with the handle giving an idea of the original diameter of the beast it was forged from

And here is a close up of the lovely granular pattern the twists give

As you can see a great bit of work, done by a great bloke

Although I am sure it is built to use, I love the artisitic form, definately a conversation piece. Great work from Kisu.

Re: Kisu cable cutter
James, how do you clean up the cable. Wire wheel/brush?
It's a cool piece. Great in it's simple design.
Simon, can I suggest a raffle rather than an auction so that it's not just those that are better off that could buy it, plus in these times I suspect it may raise more money that way any how.

Re: Kisu cable cutter
from my observations of forge in raffles ,they are give aways and look to gather very little money compared to the value of the gifted blades.
please email me if you want to contact me ,my PM box just gets so full .

Re: Kisu cable cutter
Raffles at hammer-ins have a limited number of participants.
I think a raffle for an individual item, done online could raise a fair amount.
£1 per ticket, you can buy as many tickets as you want.
I would buy at least 5.
If you take a high percentage of the people who frequent here and guess that they would buy 1 ticket each, that would be a fair amount.
As an idea, look at how many posts are here:
http://www.britishblades.com/forums/...t=76006&page=5
Each post is an entry into the raffle and OK, it was a giveaway rather than actually buying tickets but if you make the tickets cheap, I think more will sell.
If it was an auction, how much is it going to raise? You need at least two people prepared to spend a good amount.
If you compare against the Mike Blue auction, I would wonder if it would raise as much at the moment.

Re: Kisu cable cutter
Stew,
I think raffles where people pay to enter have been discouraged on BB, I believe due to gaming laws or some other such daft government rule put in place to make life difficult
Also, no offence but I dont really fancy co-ordinating loads of small payments via Paypal, and Paypal taking their cut etc (Ive done it before and know how fiddly it can be).
Maybe a raffle at the Hammerin is an idea, but I will reserve judgement as yet...anyway, back on topic...isnt it a lovely knife

Re: Kisu cable cutter
Fantastic knife! Kisu produces stunning work, Sophie my 13 year old daughter still gloats over the knife she won from James in his design a knife stamp comp.

Re: Kisu cable cutter
Was that a clever way of coaxing a post out of me Si
Anyway, thanks for the compliments and to Si's photographic skills.... The knife was a an experiment and I made a number of mistakes along the way (as always), however, I am about to start making another which will hopefully be a bit better.....
Stew - the handle area is cleaned up using a large wire wheel on a bench grinder and the blade was cleaned up by hand using 400 grit wet and dry.
I am just about to book my flights back to the UK for the last couple of weeks in May so all things being equal I will be at Jacks again this year (and really looking forward to it).
