    Re: Sheathmaking my way

I also tried emailing leprevo asking which of their leathers would be most suitable for a couple of jobs but haven't had a reply so I might just bother a local shoemaker to see if they will sell me a few smaller bits. I don't want to buy 10 to 20 ft sq only to find it's not exactly what I need.

be aware that leather for shoes is not suitable for sheaths.

it is chrome tanned instead of veg tanned and won't take shape.

Please correct me pro people if i got it mixed up.

    Re: Sheathmaking my way

I got an answer from leprevo a while back and ordered 10ft sq along with a number of tools etc. and have more or less followed this tutorial with very few problems. I didn't get an edging tool so just cut the edges a little with the scalpel I used to cut the leather.

Thanks tvividr and everyone else who offered advice.

I apply this mixture with my fingers and work it into the leather several times, then do a final polish with a soft cloth. In my opinion this mixture give the leather a more "soft" or deeper natural shine than most commercial products.
How do you mix this mixture? my caranauba wax is a hard block...
(got a jar of lanoline from the pharmacy today - it was past the "best before" date, but i don't plan on using it for medical purposes )

You know how you can melt chocolate in a bowl, set in a pan of water? Try doing that with your caranauba wax then adding the lanoline to it when its melted.

    Hope this helps

Very good step by step guide, you should write your own book.
