    Friction Folder

I just finished this little higonokami inspired friction folder yesterday. In fact, it is my first folder of all types, since earlier attempts to produce slipjoints failed miserably (I needed a carjack to open/close them!).
This one is 5 1/4" long with a 2 1/4" 1070 steel long blade, just under 3mm in thickness.
The etched finish was not what I was trying to achieve - an even copper etch, then removed part of it with scotchbrite for a more subtle effect with shades of copper, but it only stuck to the hardened part of the blade - very original and nice looking, so I just left it like that. I still can´t explain what happened but if someone knows, please tell me).
The andle is antique, very seasoned jacaranda da Baia wood with brass pins and the pouch is shark skin.
Let me know how you like it, buddies.

I like that a lot as well.

The short, deep blade suits the higonokami style, and the simple rectangular wooden handle balances the overall appearance very nicely.

I seem to have been converted to friction folders recently, after not caring for them much for a long time. I used to have just one, which doesn't have an extended tang but does have a fileworked steel backspacer, so appears to be a slipjoint.

I've now got six, with another on the way, and that doesn't include unpimped Svord Peasants!

    That's about 300 then!

Love that - nice work Ivan. It looks incredibly practical for it's size.

I think you have done very well. The shape of the blade is pne of my favorite.
BTW does working with shark skin similar to leather? I mean you have to wet it in order to get the knife shape?

Tank you all for te comments!
Pennilion was really quick but I am already makin some more. It was a fun project and I am really ooked on tese little folders. I am also makin one wit te same overal sape but usin a very discreet steel liner lock - lets see if it will work.
MikeB, sark skin is very soft and pliable like very tin leater, and a little more elastic. I just wetted te edes a little to mark te tread oles but i wasn´t really necessary.

    Re: Friction Folder

Well, I'm nowhere near the 8 or so...

But I've been bitten by the friction folder bug too and just ordered one of these from Ivan as well.

That'll be joining the Les Voorhies FF in the EDC rotation. (My Pink Svord is being retained for camping cookery duties 'cause it's perfect for that).

Hmmm. Spose I ought to get one the fab TK friction folders now as well... been umming and ahhing over them!
