It is perfectly lawful to buy, sell, otherwise trade, possess this knife.

But it has a locking mechanism.

So, if you are found in possession of it in a public place, it is your responsibility to prove this valid reason.

Re: Is this knife legal in the UK?
It certainly is, but you need to have a good reason to carry it as it has a lock. A good reason can be for work or for religious purposes, and I'm guessing from your name that you might be a Sikh so you are covered.

You can carry a folding knife without a lock with a blade under three inches. A Swiss Army Knife is a good example.

Re: Is this knife legal in the UK?
Ive got a SAK but its tiny.
Im only 16 so i dont work yet, if i was going to carry a knife for religious purposes i would carry something like this: http://www.bkcg.co.uk/products/manu/kabar/ka1217.html
So if i had a non-locking folder i wouldnt need a reason?
Can you recommend a good one with a thumb studLast edited by KamSingh; 31-03-05 at 01:49 PM.

Re: Is this knife legal in the UK?
If you were to carry that you should expect to get arrested, religious reasons or not! If you are going to carry a fixed blade then a modern military knife is NOT a good idea. Carry something that at least looks a bit like a traditional kirpan!

Re: Is this knife legal in the UK?
Have a look at the Spyderco UK Penknife. You can see it at www.heinnie.com under Spyderco. It has been specially designed to be legal in the UK.
But do remember that at age 16 the Police and courts look very poorly on any young person carrying a knife for any reason. Keep it to a camping or hiking trip, or something similiar. It is also illegal to carry the knife on school or college grounds. If you carry it around town you must accept that you may well be searched by the police and if you have the knife on you you will probably go to prison for up to two years.

Re: Is this knife legal in the UK?
Most of those have a mechanism which although technically legal puts them very, very close to a flick knife and I guarantee 100%, as a lawyer, that if you were stopped with one of those you would go to prison for the maximum period and ruin your entire life.

This may seem unfair but the law really does frown on young people carrying knives. Both the police and courts are under strict instructions to treat this with utmost severity. You should ask yourself if it is worth the risk of two years in prison.

Re: Is this knife legal in the UK?
You are more than welcome. Just be careful and remember that at your age you do need to take particular care as the law tends to brush all young people in the same way.
